Re: Astor Florida Get Away

I am still unsure if I will be able to make this one, wife still unemployed, I do still want to. Oct 22-24 sounds good to me, motel, 2 maybe 4, I would probably drive down on Friday. I am open any weekend except the first one, I have to work the first weekend of the month on Saturday.

I'm in. I am coming from the Atlanta metro area so it is a 7 1/2 hour drive so I will probably leave on Thursday the 21st so I can be rested.

It will be me + 1 hotel.

Can you post the proper things to bring for this outting, I boat on Lake Allatoona and have not been so far away but I will be sure to bring my common sense.

Bring what you want, freshwater fishing, of course freshwater river, boating, tubing, skiing, you have more river than you can see in such a short time. Tashasdaddy can probably tell you more, he lives in the area.

Not sure yet if I will get to go, wife been out of work since before Christmas, may have a job now possibly starting next week, just have to see how things go, I will be going from South of Savannah, probably go down on Friday PM

As of right now, the dates look fine. Not sure if we will be staying at the hotel or not though. Which motel are you staying in?

Still unsure is I will be able to make it, wife still not working, funds getting tight, don't know if I will have the spare money, as to camping wife does not camp, at least in a tent, is there other reasonable accommodations nearby. If I make it I would sure prefer less expensive.

Camping suits Mrs Ken and myself just fine. Going to try and fine tune the dates so we can be there.

Crap that is expensive. We will pick up a tent. I am up for some camping, I will throw the tent in the boat with some clothes, and we will be good to go. The wife, daughter and I.

Only problem is we just got an invite to some friends wedding on Friday evening, then my daughter has a football game(she is a cheerleader) on Saturday at about 3pm. We will probably come up Saturday after the game and spend the night Saturday and Sunday.. Or if the game goes too late, come up Sunday morning.

That is if you guys dont change the date. Problem is, until football season is over, we will be at the games every Saturday. I thought the season was over by the 23rd, but apparently not.

well as you all know, i do like to camp. apparently Astor Bridge is under new ownership. they could not have made that many improvements to warrant that rate.

if a couple of non campers, want to get together, Astor Bridge has some large older Cottages, that sleep quite a few, for $99.00 a nite

That marina was completely under water after Katrina came through, so they had no choice but to renovate. As for $99 a night, that is a price for a beachside high rise with a balcony at that time of year, not a riverside shack.

OOH, I was thinking of a differant marina. There is a couple other places to stay on the river just north of there. One is Blairs Den, and then there is Castaways on the river. I think they are much cheaper, but havent checked, so not for sure.

No kidding? We have had many interactions with them and have been happy with them so far. The Active Boating Club goes to Blairs Den each year. We eat at Castaways all the time. I am pretty sure they are less expensive. My wife wont stay at Blairs Den, she says it is scary, but I know the rooms have been refinished at both places recently due to the hurricanes. Either way, we are doing everything we can to join you guys. It looks like my daughters Cheer thing on Saturday is going pretty late, and we might not be able to get there til Sunday morning. URGH!! Hopefully everyone is still there.
