OK the only plywood from arauco. Is pine cabinet grade at home depot. I understand I want a c x. So what grade do I want if I can't get it. Lowes has treated underlayment but I read pressure treated is no good either so help

BBX or BCX will work. The B side is still sanded smooth but has patches where knots were removed, the C side will have knots that haven't been patched.

BBX or BCX will work fine, especially since you're going to glass over it.

It has exterior glue so I'm sure it will work. 31 a sheet

Re: arauco ply

B and C are how nice the 2 faces look, how well they're sanded and wether or not they are clear (no knots or patches) or are patched (B grade) or have knots (C grade). X means exterior waterproof glue.

Cabinet grade isn't made with the waterproof glue.

You could use MDO plywood. Prolly have to go to a quality lumber yard to get it. Usually around $60 bucks a sheet but really good stuff. Saves on Resin and glass too! Don't have to pre-coat it before applying the CSM

Don't understand that, do you mean Home Depot has cabinet grade Arauco pine plywood? That's the stuff everyone here is talking about, it's made with exterior glue.

It's nice looking stuff and good plywood, but I'm not onboard with using it for boats as the radatarian (sp) pine it's made from is prone to rot, more than plain douglas fir plywood. If you glass it well to totally encapsulate it, then seal all penetrations, Arauco will work perfectly fine (IF all the penetrations are kept water tight).

Re: arauco ply

Your original post through me off. I researched and found this.
Arauco Sanded Plywood

All AraucoPly sanded panels are laid up on
a composed core using exterior PF resin and
100% plantation grown radiata pine.
Our faces are peeled from pruned logs which
yield a much higher percentage of high quality
veneer. All sanded products are finished with
a 150 grit face and a 120 grit back sand and are
manufactured in accordance with the US PS 1-07
product standard.
Our high quality sanding process allows for
AraucoPly sanded panels to be easily finished
with excellent results. Additionally all ACX and BCX
products are PS 1 underlayment compliant and
edge stamped as such by TECO and Pittsburgh Testing.

FD is correct. As long as ANY wood is sealed properly and Maintained and Cared for properly it will last a LONG time. Any wood, including Marine Grade will rot if it gets wet and stays that way for a period of time. If you can get the Arauco I'd use it.

Re: arauco ply

I would be more concerned of why it de-lamed, did it delam when cut, exposed to moisture, other? I've had some cheap (china) birch plywood delam before, but it was due to bad workmanship, voids and/or lack of glue, delamed when cut...

As jng asked, what are you using the plywood for, area of boat, fiberglass or aluminum hull? Do you want the best, or something that will work fine.

I'm not sure why it Delaminated the thin top. Maybe from the cut. Ill have to ask. Maybe it was the china stuff.

Why would you precoat MDO? It's already coated with resin and impervious to water and flat as glass with no porosity. Now the Edges...That's another story.

Re: arauco ply

My big box stores don't carry Auraco anymore... bummer (I really liked it)... I did stop by a local specialty lumber yard here (where I have been buying my marine grade previously). I asked if they had any exterior grade ply with the exterior glue. He pointed me to their radiata pine... I brought a couple of sheets home... Its really nice and half the price of the marine... I got mine for 38 sheet for 3/4. I put some epoxy on it tonight and I like they way it took the resin...

Re: arauco ply

There are 2 Arauco plywoods to choose from at Home Depot. One is the Pine Cabinet panel. This is not the one you want. The one you want is the sanded ACX Panel.

HD and Lowes only have the ACX stuff around here, so what's what's the difference between the 2 (besides sanding and patching which won't make much difference for boat stuff) they both say exterior glue?
