Bin lurkin,<br />You are right any car that is imported into the USA will " run properly "on 87.<br />The problem with most high performancr cars today is that to make the most horsepower they need high octane. When running on 87 most motors retard the timing after listening to your motor ping. This is what the knock sensors are for.<br /> For most driving you can use 87 but there is a reason that the manufacurers recomend the good stuff on cars with high performance motors.

Say, BL.<br /><br />You got onto another urban legend.<br /><br />A number of vehicles made in USA (Like my ML) and a number of imported vehicles require higher than 87 octane. There is no law forbidding them.<br /><br />I wouldn't call 91-93 "the good stuff". It simply allows higher compression ratios, that's all.<br /><br />That's another myth. More expensive does not mean "better".

1.73 to 1.85 for unleaded. thats for 87.
