Re: Anyone driven into a neighborhood that scared the carp out of them?
I have worked a few neighborhoods that were bad enough that if someone had a carp in them it would definately come out and run home.

One neighborhood was bad enough in a city I used to work in when I first started my law enforcement career. This neighborhood was bad enough the ambulance would not go in unless they had a police escort. We would not go in unless we had 2 officers. I went in alone a few times, but not very often. I had the respect of most of the people that lived there, they all said I was fair and treated them good. But if I had to take someone out of there then it was a fight all the way.
The last time the ambulance went in alone was for a stabbing. They got to the edge of the neighborhood on an "unknown injury". we officers were all busy with a big bar fight. By the time we got there the ambulance was totaled and the paramedics were in the back calling for help. Baseball bats, hammers and an ax did a number on that ambulance. Was a rival gang member wandered into the hood, got jumped, and nobody wanted him to get help. Assaults there nightly, a fe wnever reported just rumored. Several rapes, several attempted homocides. Was right off of an indian reservation so a lot of alcohol abuse and about every other house a crack house. Most of the people were poor and homeless just crashing at the crackhouses which were vacant houses they just moved into. No plumbing so they did their business anywhere in the house. A lot of the people living in these places would drink Lysol for the alcohol content. Pop a can of lysol with a church key and let it vent. Mix it in a milk jug with water and enjoy. The ones that weren't cracked out, tweeking on crank or drinking lysol would sit in the corners huffing paint or whatever they could find. Another popular drink was Auquanet hairspray.
I loved working there but my wife hated living there and wanted to go to college so we moved. I would go back in a minute if there was a future for my family....and if I could make more than the $13,000 a year they were paying me.

The bad thing about driving a truck in those neighborhoods is they will hijack your cargo. My father has been driving for many years. He always says as long as the wheels are turning they won't bother you, but they will crack your box and take what they can from the cargo. I have seen them use those spring handgrips for working hand muscles and breaking the seals on semi's with them, then taking whatever is in the cargo.
