Re: Anybody else deal with Asian carp?

i take it most didnt watch the vids lol. its not carp, tastes nothing like carp, is not red meat like carp, and the state biologists have already did tests on the fish and toxins are virtually non existant in them. (that was in the vids i posted before that most seemed to ignored) the fish guide i have shows it can be eaten once a week compared to carp that is one a month and do not eat over 18"

some just have the yuck stuck in there heads. thats fine with me more i get to eat lol. this fish flesh is comparable to crappie or walleye. nothing like common carp. its good its safe. im all over it. yes it really is a redneck dream come true. take all ya want.

this was asian i fried up for a fish fry. there were 13 people there. EVERYONE of them preffered it over catfish. even my 5 year old picky eater liked it as well as my cousins 6 year old daughter.

say what ya want. theres no trying this 12 times to see if ya like it. if you like bass crappie youll like this. its fishiness taste on a 1-10 scale and 1 being not fishy 10 being the worst this stuff is a 1-2 tops. putting catfish about 6.

and YES they do jump without electro shock. i got these with my cousin in the bath shoot just south of havana. they either jumped in the boat or was caught in mid air by me with a dip net. we had a 2008 grizzly tracker with a 40hp 4 stroke. they were jumping all around us. you havent been in a school till you see for yourself.

this fella doesnt have any special equiptment. dought he could afford much more than a 12 pack of schlitz. in the peoria area you might not see it like this with the width of the river and them being spread out. go to bath havana area. and you will find out theres nothing special you need to do but drive your boat and youll be dodging these. they are disturbed but the vibrations of the motor. sertain rpms and motors can cause mor of a disturbance and ive been told the 2 strokes get them going better but my cousins 4 stroke had lots jumping. like this guy. they look weird and have slime like all fish. but nasty??? not on a plate. what there doing to our eco system??? thats nasty. but the more that eat these the more that will dissappear. i think its totally stupid to send them to asia. they should be on american supermarket shelves. but most wont buy it. change the name. once more try it it will be a hit. there had to be the first guy to pinch his nose and eat a raw oyster. and there were thousands saying your stupid and gross. look now. hell try it. if you dont like it spit it out. 99.9% that like fish wont either. thell be asking for some tarter and seconds.

how i wound up trying it was a friend of mines grandfather has a fish fry every fall. and he gets his catfish from a commercial fisherman in hudson il. a couple years ago the guy said im gonna let ya have 10 lbe of this asian carp for folks to try. he told him he could buy all the catfish he wanted but 10 of the asian was all he was letting go. said his costomers at his restraunt loved it. then he procedded to tell me that the family ate the entire 10 lbs of the asian before they even went for the catfish. so i said hell i want to try that. now i too love it.

dont knock something till ya try it. and saying ive eaten carp and didnt like it is like saying i hate beef cause i didnt like lettuce. theres no comparison to these fish and carp. i could call a bird a motorcycle. but that doesnt mean it is. these fish are in no way related to carp. its just the name they were given.

How have you never seen one jump behind your boat in the channel? We have several times, i agree that it happens more going slower and that majority of the time they jump at the back but i have had them hit the bow while we were goin at least 25. As for the guy who said they jump 25 - 30 ft behind the boat thats just not true bc they pop out inches behind my boat, i can't believe they don't hit the prop!

when we were at bath in the shoot off the main river they were jumping all around. mostly behind but we had a few jump right in the boat. one hit my cuz as he was attempting to net em off the back of his boat. i tell ya what we were alone on the day we went. no other boats in sight. and i had a 4' dip net. so if they only jump 25' behind the boat i wouldnt have caught any. thats wrong. they were flying across our laps and right over the motor cowl. i caught most of them right off the stern with a lading net. thats the main problem with this issue. to many NOT trues floating around. hell look at that last vid. they were hitting the guy in the face. in fact im going to drive back soon. an hour drive for me, to get some before my fry this fall. and to stock some before winter. hope i get some bigger ones this round. not that i want more there but since thier there ill take all i can get.

oh and by the way. a SHOTGUN season for these has got to be a joke. if not its the dumbest idea ive ever heard of in my life. whos the ones to be the judge of how far its safe to shoot across open water?? they are complete baffoons. hell in il its illegal to shoot into or across water due to richchets. but drunk rednecks running around the river with shotguns. BAD IDEA! there will be many injured real quick. hit a wake pulling the trigger your friend dies. if it was legal, i would not do it way to dangerous.

like these guys.

sure when i was 20 ide been laughing it up doing the same, drunk and having a ball. but soon one of these guys will fall on a sword, get tangleled in a suit of hooks and drown and all thier friends will be crying and saying how smart and wonderful he was. ill be saying" well what did you ecpect????????" reminds me of jack@$$ theme song. if you want to be dumb you gotta be tough. this is not the poster for being safe on the water. if they allow shotguns for asians on the illinois here. be the last time i go on it. unless im armed. to return fire on any idiots.

if my friends drug me on skis through flooded trees swerving back and forth the only thing ide been midevil on would be them.

Re: Anybody else deal with asian carp?

You tell me this (Know what you're seeing before you type it, okay?) and then you say this(I also think they are putting an electric charge into the water, but noone mentions it or talks about it):facepalm::facepalm:

If you would have done your research you would find that the motors weather there inboards or o/b's doesn't make any difference.Tin boats or fiberglass doesn't make any difference. The fish are drawn by the noise and turbulence they generate. You really should do some research on them. Do some reading and you will find every article will say they get excited (disturbed) because of the sound of the motors.

And if you had BOATED over 600 HOURS on the river where they are, you would know. But you haven't. So you are reading what others say. But I know for a FACT, from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, that fiberglas I/Os, in non-shallow water, especially at cruising speeds, do NOT make them jump. Fact. You can argue all you want, about what you've read. But that don't change the facts of what I have experienced for 11 years. I don't need to read anything else, or watch COMMERCIALS, I have lived it.

But as I say, yes, everyone who boats on a lake or a river where these fish are or are going to be, sell your boats NOW, you're gonna get killed by these fish. Sell them in a hurry. I'll be there to give you $500 for your now deadly boat, just to save your life! Thank me when you're old and bored. But you may not reach me, I'll be out on the Illinois River, boating.

Carl, the simplest way I have heard the taste explained was, "if you like tuna fish from a can, this fish is better." Those pics of the breaded filets you have up do look yummy, indeed.

I fish out there for channel cat and occasionally catch drum and regular carp but they don't smell nothing like that.

They smell worse than drum? Oh, dear Lord!

I'm trying it the first chance I get!

This is very true ... They jump when they get disturbed 0...10...30...50 ft back is probably more a function of speed.

Point is they jump whenever they want no matter what. Anyone who thinks differently doesn't have the ability To think...regardless of the number of boats they think they can buy.

Where can I get me some of that?
The only type of fish I eat is albacore tuna out of the can. I am very sensitive to that fishy smell.

They will jump all over for many reasons, but anyone that has spent any time around them on the IL river knows they jump at outboards, especially at slower speeds, much more than I/O's. And they jump all over the boat.
