This drive has been in my garage for a few years as a spare.I moved it today and saw the crack. This drive was serviced and painted ,ready to go so when I ran my finger over the crack and paint came off it leads me to believe it was leaking something. If I remember correctly this area is a cavity along side the shifter and not the lube area..What do you guys think?? Charlie

Had this spare Alpha drive in the back of my garage for several years ,serviced, standing on its skeg and ready to go in case I needed it. Pulled it out last week and found it had a crack. The cavity behind the crack is hollow so Im thinking of cleaning it up good ,wiping with acetone and using some JB weld .Gonna have to build it up a little for strength so it may ultimately look like it has the mumps...lol. Anyone ever do this before??? Charlie

That crack won’t affect anything, it the drain hole for the cavity. grind it out a tad and jb. Drain the oil and pressure check the drive to make sure there is no other damage.

I patched an exhaust manifold that cracked from a freeze up. it held up for the next 10 years or more.

Gee, any idea what caused the injury? It would be bad to fix it and have it happen again.
The drive has been standing on its skeg for several year in my garage.I am assuming there was a slight crack already there that got a little worse.I def cleaned some of the cavity out while servicing the water pump as there was some mucky crap in there.Cleaned out what I could by spooning it up with a screwdriver .Was def not filled with water.
