Re: Americans please.

The United States of America is an experiment in government
I do not think anyone would disagree with that statement, the last Presidential Elections were a classic "experiment in government" especially in Florida.

Both George and George W. have been major supporters and beneficiaries of Enron and other now fallen mega companies which have portrayed to the world that some American corporate businesses are greedy, immoral and crooked. What does that say about the Bush family?
The many employees that worked hard and had all their life savings in Enron, I'm sure they feel the experimental government has let them down too.

The lack of morality your last President showed the world, the bare faced lies he told the people of the USA and yet he now makes millions of dollars with speaking engagements and people line up to hear him present as if he were a hero!

The most successful in history, with the highest quality of life in history.
We agree that it is not perfect, but why should we not agree that "our way" is the best currently available to mankind?
I guess it's all in the "eyes of the beholder"!

If having 2 + vehicles per family, being the largest user of energy per capita, being able to sit in a two hour traffic jam in your car with the AC on makes you think your quality of life is so much better than the rest of the world, then you need to get out more and see the rest of the world.

It amazes me how many Americans don't even know where Canada is, and yet some (the so called educated) would storm our boarders if we did not all jump to attention and shout Yes Sir, anything you say Sir!

It also worries me to hear people say "you're either with us or against us" and if you don't agree with us then remind them who their neighbor is and that that long border is hard to defend

The world is a big place and even though the USA is a dominant player today, so was the Soviet Union 15 years ago. China has a billion more people than the USA, Islam is the fastest growing faith and there are more Muslims than Christians in the world.

There are over 6.3 billion people in the world and less than 0.3 billion in the USA. If the USA tries to use the strong arm tactics (which I don't believe it will) with everybody including their friends and allies, eventually one of two things is going to happen.
1. There will be WW3
2. The USA will have to pull out their arsenal of Weapons of Mass Destruction to protect it self and that will be the end of that! It will be a very lonely place waiting for that cloud of atomic dust to circle the globe to home town USA.

I just hope and pray we never see either situation.

The majority of people in the world that are exposed to current affairs agree that the recent terrorist attacks have to be stopped, that they are being instigated and executed by a handful of extremists, but I'm not sure the rest of the world will blindly follow the USA at any cost without more proof.

As for Saddam, the Coalition should have toppled him when they had the chance in 92, but now is the time to send in the Special Forces and blow the SOB away.

JB, I know you have served in the Armed Services and I respect the views of people that have fought for their country and freedom and have seen the first hand effects of war. I have no time though for those who have not, and yet are hell bent on sending the troops in even to friendly nations just because they may not agree with your countries point of view.

Re: Americans please.

It's easy for ALL of us to judge our neighbors as we peer over the fence.

Allow me to relay some of my thoughts, none of which will "flame" Canada-our freinds.

1. Our election (2000) worked as it was supposed to. Many didn't like the outcome, many did. However, the law prevailed. This "experiment" has worked better than any before it.

2. "W" Bush divested himself of Enron long before the crooked CEO's decided to pull a fast one on the unsuspecting investors. Maybe they got a feeling of being above the law from our past leader-hmmm? I'm sure that happens in some of the other countries around the world too. The crooks that did that ARE going to pay.

3. If this whole Iraq business is about oil, why didn't we "conquer" Kuwait instead of liberating it. We didn't go to Bagdad either, since our allies didn't sanction that. We kept our word.

We were there, we had them defeated, and we could have taken "all the spoils" for ourselves. We don't think that way. We prefer to peddle "freedom". Some decide to embrace it, others don't. We like to leave the choice up to the people.

4. I don't know, nor does ANYONE on this board know what "goods" we have on the skunks around the world. I think the world will be shocked when the evidence is shown. As I said before, Inspector Clouseau is in Bagdad being lead around by the nose by the Iraqi's, what a joke!

Hussein has gassed his own people, that in itself is enough reason to eliminate the monster. The world had to do the same thing in the 1940's, and our freinds were with us. History is a great teacher.

5. As I stated before, I believe the UN to be an irrelevant organization. There are plenty of tin horn dictators in that outfit that love nothing more than to cast spears at the very land that supports them. Remember, it's in New York.

I believe we would be better off if it was off of our soil. Any takers? I think we would give anyone that raised their hand a "smokin deal" on the whole mess-building included. Perhaps we'll even build them a new one.

6. We were attacked on our soil. Some may think of this whole thing as the US just flexing its muscles-so be it. We have leadership now that is going to do do its best to not let the scum of this earth do that again-TO ANYONE!

Re: Americans please.

djohns19,
I have watched you edit your post as you have probably watched me do the same this evening.

I am confident that our two countries will always be friends and support each other because we the people are able to express our views, change our minds and learn from each other. Let's hope our governments can do the same.

It has been interesting reading the "American View" and even though I know some of my statements may hurt you and your countrymen, the knowledge is gained from reading the press/propaganda outside the USA, which unfortunately the world reads too.

We will never agree on everything, but that's what makes us different, however I hope we will agree on the "Important Stuff".

Lost Canadian,

No, as a matter of fact, I wasn't watching. Anyway, I'm glad you were. I said basically the same thing, in different ways.

I made a commitment to myself, and the members of this board, to not flame anyone. I thought some of my "first drafts" may be construed as such.

I guess I had better write, from now on, in another program and paste.

Propaganda is a VERY dangerous and effective tool.
It takes a ton of truth to overcome an ounce of propaganda.

Re: Americans please.

This has been an interesting thread and a demonstration of gentlemen exchanging views without rancor.

However, it has become an exchange of "Oh, yeah, well what about. . . .? and "Yabut". Clearly, several of us have become annoyed. We are no longer expressing clearly thought out views of our own, but quoting one another and nit-picking one another's statements.

I think it is time to close the discussion.

Thank you all for your participation. May we have many more.

Merry Christmas to all. :)
