Hello I just inherited a 1958 pioneer aluminum v hull boat. I want to convert it to a bass boat.image.jpg What would be the best way to do this? Also does any one have any ideas on how to make a cheap outboard to push this little bass buster around? Any ideas will be appreciated.

Do you want to have a mostly flat floor, with two seats sitting on top of the benches - so the floor will be just a little higher than currently, or are you wanting to make a floor as high as the top of the bench seats that are there?

What's the length and beam of the boat?

I'm hoping for it to turn out something like thisView attachment 217690

Before doing that... Haul it down to the lake, slap a piece of plywood across the seats (wear life jacket) and walk across the plywood to see how stable it is. You'll be raising the center of gravity, high-decking it like that, making the boat unstable.

If you deck the boat 3-4" above the keel, you'll keep the CG low and the boat stable. (well,,, more stable than high decking)

Yep ^^^, I agree

It looks narrow & fairly long, making it even more tippy if you build a deck that high.

What's it rated weight capacity? All that lumber & decking is going to add a fair amount of weight. More constructed weight means less fuel, people & gear.

Where are you located? It's a nice looking little vintage tin boat, any chance I could talk you out of cutting & modifying it as you describe?

You'll need a trailer to start with due to the added weight of decking and seats. I would just put decking in the floor midship and the stern. In the bow I would raise the deck up to the level of the seats with a storage hatch and a bow mount TM.

I'm going to take measurement and post them today. How challenging and what all would I have to do to remove the seats and make it like an actual bass boat?

2 problems right off with removing the seats. 1 they have the only flotation for the boat under them. 2 they are the structure that keeps the sides of the boat from flexing and cracking the hull.

That boat already is all the boat it's going to be,......

Use it as is and enjoy it while you save up for the boat you want,.............

Many of the bench style seats are structural components that help the boat keep it's shape. Heavier aluminum hulls may depend on the benches less for structural support. They are also likely filled w/ styrofoam flotation, removing them & adding additional weight and not replacing the flotation foam elsewhere isn't wise.

Any bracing that is thru the green portions of the inner hull are below the water line. Remove them & you'll have to fill the hole, stainless nuts & bolts will work, but a closed end blind rivet would work better, and you'll need to seal the rivet/bolt to the hull. Those above the water line still need to be filled & sealed but aren't as prone to leaking.

You might consider using a converted cooler as a livewell & adding clamp on seats. If the off the shelf seat brackets won't fit your bench tops very well, it can be accomplished another way.

You'd be gaining seats, not adding significant weight, not removing flotation foam, not be making major changes to the original structure & it's strength, and hopefully be keeping a nice inherited vintage tin boat intact.

Where in Ohio?

the boat will work to catch bass, crappie, perch, walleye, northern, and anything else you want to catch. I agree with others, use it as is.

It's 13' 9" long 4' 5" wide and 1' 5" tall at the rear and 2' at the bow. I took it out in my pond stood on the seat and tried to tip it and did not succeed. Also my boat has no floatation foam under the seats so I don't have to worry about that.

I have the trailer figured out I'm going to put furniture rollers under in and put It on my utility trailer. I will just roll it down the ramp into the water and use a rope to pull out the rollers

If you want to build out a fishing rig, I'd GLADLY trade you a 16ft aluminum boat w/ serviceable trailer that you could convert any way you see fit. And you can keep any motor you may have planned for this Pioneer. My only cavaet would be the Pioneer not have any bad rock rash on the hull bottom..
