I recent bought a 1981 alumacraft turning it into a river boat for catfish tournaments and bait fishing.
It had a bunch of foam in it and I needed to replace the transom wood is rotten. I removed all the foam and there was even foam under the floor and sides do i need to put it back? Will it hold the same weight? I was building it custom on the inside for what I want so same design isn’t going back.

Also is there anywhere online that sells caps to cap off the ribs on the job boat? I don’t plan on putting the sides back I just don’t want anyone able to get cut or stabbed.

Many times the foam is structural. However it is needed to keep the boat from completely sinking if you have a leak

I’m hoping I can test everything before hand I have to have a custom livewell and not gonna have much room for foam after I planned on making everything structurally secured with aluminum
