adhesive for marine carpet to line x

ok I redid the floor on my 87 rinker awhile back . I replaced all the wood and laid glass on it and then had linex applied to it and tied it to the sides to form a membrane. now I need to lay the carpeting and need suggestions on adhesive. my concern was that the linex is a polyurethane elastomer and have read somewhere that carpet adhesive wont bond to it. I was hoping for some input from mmbers that have done the carpeting doing thing before and have more experience than me. ive never done this before and only want to do it once and right. I was going to use some 3m 90 spray adhesive but wanted to see if that will work. heres what 3m says it will bond to as a substrate. I think I fall under one of them.

Funny you should mention it...

You're on the right track with the spray adhesive because it is solvent based. It'll be expensive and you'll need to use quite a bit, follow the manufacturers directions. I'd do a test spot with a piece of the scrap carpet in an inconspicuous spot. You may also want to try Dap Weldwood Contact Cement, it's solvent based and very water resistant. I like the contact cement because it brushes on and you have about an hour to work with it depending on temperature.

That's another thing, follow the working temp guidelines on whatever product you use. Most adhesives don't do well below 65*F.

I strongly suggest using a carpet roller to roll out the carpet and ensure a good bond into the adhesive. This is the one I use when installing carpet and vinyl:

Soooo, you shot Truck Liner over the Plywood and now you want to lay Carpet over the Truck Liner?? Did you Seal the plywood with anything prior to spraying the Line-X? Did you attach the plywood to the sides of the fiberglass hull with anykind of fiberglass tabbing? IMHO it will be difficult to acheive a good bond with the carpet over the ruff surface of the Line-X product, but...I've been wrong before.

heres a couple of pics I had handy, you can see the difference between the glassed and none glassed floor section. the old floor was totally removed. the stringers were good so I replaced the floor and the side shelves and redid the rear seat sections. then I used autobody fibreglass to level out some of the surfaces between the plywood and boat itself. the underside of the plywood was given a coat of glass resin then used pl premium and deck screws to anchor everthing down. afterwards I glassed the whole floor up the sides. I then sanded and levelled it all out with bodyfiller (im an autobody tech so had resources available,lol) I originally was going to have the linex sprayed and call it done, figured it would be a nice surface to clean after a weekend out with the kids but it didn't pan out that way because the color the of the linex wasn't what we agreed upon originally. it was purple as opposed to a navy blue. sooooo now I picked up some marine carpet and am going to be installing it soon. the surface of the line x is not as rough as one might think. i found a few posts here about different adhesives and one individual took the time to do some extensive testing with different options and i narrowed it down to the henry 263 outdoor adhesive. i had a hard time locating it but got lucky this afternoon and found it at one of the tile shops locally. heres the link to the individual who tested them. id like to thank him for posting this as it helped me out.

I would doubt any adhesive would work well. Have you thought about installing snaps and making it a snap in style carpet?

forgot to mention that im going to do a test sample first and expose it to heat and moisture and see what it can handle

i have thought about that using snaps. problem is that i had them linex up the side of the boat aswell so im still needing to adhere the carpeting on the sides. gonna try some test samples tomorrow and will report back.

Did you use the line-x anti-slip with the aggregate or smooth without aggregate?

it looks just like a bed liner. they spray it on smooth then dust on a coat to give it some grip. im hoping the extra texture might give it some mechanical adhesion aswell. will know better this week when i sample it.

I understand your situation. Might as well start testing. If nothing else works, you could check out linoleum adhesive. That stuff bonds to linoleum and vinyl.
