Re: a wing, a fake carbon fiber hood, and a farting muffler

Come on guys, the imports were cheap, kids buy them and some guys got smart and started marketing performance and visual enhancement products to them. Same as always. And yea putting a exhaust pipe the size of a dryer hose on the back is really stupid 99% of the time. But then again a 15K custom paint job doesn't make your scarab go any faster either. I find it interesting how we complain about the sound of a ricer but revel in the sound of a harley making far more noise. One thing I agree with is the stereo's. All hours of the day and night. Any man can appreciate the sound of a well tuned engine regardless of make, rap music is just nausiating. JMHO

Nice to see some SAAB fans here. Really are a sweet ride. I would love to lay hands on a good 9-5 but I really don't have a need for one or a place to keep it. But if your daughters need a good reliable, safe college car, take a look at a 9-5. Still a consumer digest best buy. Anyone interested in a smokin' deal on a Viggen (If you know saabs, you know what a viggen is), I got a friend with a black one with 40K for around 10.5.

oh yea, Rubber frog, love the new avatar, and no I don't like the cheesehead moniqure, but that and a kick in the butt will get you a sore butt.

I like the rice too but I prefer part speed/part looks. A blend of the two like the muscle cars were. Everybody had there high jackers and 50's on Crager S/S's and most added a cam to sound good.

I loved my Saab, but it was a 99 (last year of them) and I do have some SAAB stories...

ever do a clutch in one of those suckers? make sure you buy OEM parts, I can tell you that! No NAPA rebuilds!

Ricer or tuner? I vote for ricer, but if we meet in the middle we could call them ticers,or maybe runers.

POINTER,

Yeah, I'd consider going after that Viggen, but you just can't get anything for them here. What I want is a 5 speed 9-5 Aero, Same engine as the Viggen . . . Yup, sweet ride. I'll check pricing out, not likely , but again I would consider it. Actually owning a Turbo SAAB is why I bought a GTI. You just can't beat a turbo and a manual tranny.

The SAABs are really cheap used cars. They have had some quality issues and the resale value thing only works if you plan to keep them. I loved that car though, really did.

While we're talking about all of the ricers, anybody mind getting a little technical ?
One More Cast posted about a 1990 Honda Civic that did 9.2 in the quarter @162 MPH. Is this your car? What did you do to get those kinds of numbers ? This sounds like a complete from the ground up custom engine....I'm curious.

Re: a wing, a fake carbon fiber hood, and a farting muffler

QC,

Saab had the strangest issues, like bad rims and some electrical quirks, but the 9-5 was the best of the line. The viggen (9-3) is just such a sleeper car. I would have been interested in the viggen but my wife just doesn't get it. Can't equate saab with sports car. So I bought the guys snowmobile instead. :D

I took over Michigan as a responsibility for my job and there seems to be a disporportionate number of them there. Lots of swedes and dutch pineing for home? The 9-3 can be a little tight for us tall guys but the 9-5 would do the trick nicely. Anyways you are right, the aftermarket just doesn't give saab the respect they deserve. But the company is coming on strong the past few years. Actualy turned a profit for GM the past 2-3 years. Oh yea, GM gave free extended 100,000 mile warranty on the viggans engines as they had some kind of sludge issue that was supposedly more persecption than reality. Not widely known.

What do you think they would call them if the kids decided to hop up saab's? :D

Even the 9-5s had that bad rim deal. The three spokers just plane broke. I actually like the 2000 9-5 Aeros with the three spokers as they are unique, but the front end changed slightly in '02 and I like that one the best (they also got 20 more bhp out of that 2.3 Viggen engine from 230 to 250 . . .)

I'm only 5'7" so I don't ever think about size. I keep trying to get the family into smaller cars as I have spent a lot of time in Europe and smaller cars can be so much more fun to drive. The 9-5 is very comfortable for 4 adults though and still feels like a sports car.

There are some SAAB tuners out there. Not sure what you call them. Interesting note, they were previously combined with Scania before the GM deal. If you do a poll of European truckers (Nos4r2 for example) I'd bet they would vote the Scania as the best truck. They think about them like we do Peterbilts . . . Go figure.

When I was stationed in Germany I was going to buy a Saab and have it shipped, but it would not have met the emmisions/safety regs, so I passed on it. I always liked the Saabs, great engines.

Re: a wing, a fake carbon fiber hood, and a farting muffler

I grew up racing tracks all over texas with my dad we raced everything from motorcycles to Honda Oddessys,to our 69 camaro.

I grew up and bought me a 73 camaro rs (hence my e-mail nastycamarors)

I have built a few hot rods over the years and in 2002 when fast and the furious (movie) came out I decided to build a 4 banger I bought a 96 Dodge Neon had a 2.2 cual over head cam 4 banger We worked the motor (cam,pistons,crank,etc..) and turboed it at 8psi of boost this car put 330 hp to the wheels speed freaks in Tracy<Ca dynoed it for us the car was a ROCKET and not many cars could run with it. I was a believer My ca,aro pushes 400 hp and that neon would walk all over it 330 hp to the wieght of the car made for some balls in your guts rides.

I sold both and for some reason I am fixing a boat up LOL

I have come to point that people can drive what they want to as long as they dont call any car made after around 1971 a "muscle car". I saw some mexicans driving an old toyota with a spoiler made from a piece of plywood and 2 coffie cans ,,,,,,,,hey if it rings their bell who cares?
