Ahhh.. I never separated the gimbal ring from the gimbal housing so I wont know your pain until my steering pin rusts away in 6 months while I'm on the lake.. :cold:

the steering one isnt bad but the lower one will make you cry trying to keep it lined up to slide a cotterpin in lol

Picked up a new "old" toy the other night! its a 201 series from 1952. I know its not an ideal machine for marine vinyl but I didn't pay much at all for it and I won't feel bad if it craps out vs breaking my wifes new fangled machine that does all kinds of fancy stitches.

I DID have to dig in to is so I could do some electrical surgery, all of the wiring was basically non-existent. But I don't mind doing it, and I kinda like taking apart old stuff like this to see how they work... Its incredible how complicated (and how well built) an old singer is. Lots of moving parts!

Anywho, I'm curious to see how it handles jo-ann vinyl. Hoping I can use at least 68 thread no problem.

P.S. the machine isn't super tiny, my cat is huge lol, hes about 22 lbs (picked him out as a kitten cuz he had huge paws hoping hed get big, and boy did he).

They are bulletproof. Much more robust and timing will not be an issue like with the new ones were they sometimes need adjustment. And I never thought that I would learn how to sew. And here I'm actually enjoying it.

Yea... I'm pretty excited! I have no idea what I'm doing but after watching some sailrite videos I feel a little more prepared... I might start by making a new bench cushion for my house lol.. get some machine time under my belt before I break into the good stock.

Got the new/old sewing machine motor totally torn down, cleaned, lubed, rewired, reassembled, and back on the machine and it fired right up! the Old singerlite even works now! lol

Can't wait to try it out. Wanted to last night but I tried to wind a bobbin and found out there is a tire missing from the bobbin winder (4 bucks on amazon for a 4 pack, so ill get them tomorrow).

LOL I used big fat O-Rings from the tool box for the bobbin winder.

I thought about that but couldn't find any at my hardware store that were that big of a cross section... oh well.. i can wait a couple days... I'm used to not having instant gratification with boats lol... everything is an "order" item.

Looks like I might be following your path chevymaher ... tires came in and they are terrible quality.. everyone of them snapped while installing so they are going back and I'm headed to the hardware store. I even felt inspired enough to write a review on amazon lol

i got my tires from walmart with rims, at least i know wallyworld moves them pretty fast next set i will buy local but i wanted new rims

Finally got good quality tires for the bobbin winder and threw the new one on and it worked perfectly. Then came the seemingly never ending hassle of setting the proper bobbin and thread tension... But once I finally got it dialed in, I was able to mess around. This thing sews thru 3 layers of marine vinyl absolutely no problem. I'm super excited to have a machine that will get me thru this boat. I can tell the motor is undersized but it doesn't even struggle with it so I should be good!

Now thats done, I can get back on finishing up the outdrive punch list with resealing the trim rams as the last item on the list! Wooo!

I bought a teflon foot so the material slips better through the machine since it doesn't have a walking foot.
I will also rebuild the cylinders since my fluid was milky. Let us know how it goes.

I'll keep that in mind.. it didnt seem to have trouble feeding the vinyl tho.

I dont ANTICIPATE any problems with the cylinder rebuild cuz I've done em before but when you think things will go smoothly is when everything that can go wrong will

Went with sierra.. I've used them before and it's pretty good quality... they still use the brass rings. You need to be careful with some of the other aftermarket stuff, they have steel rings and they can score the bore and rod. I got a set from amazon once and sent it right back cuz it had the steel rings.
