90hp Nissian won't open up

Got another question, I put a different console with a tach and hooked it up, well I have it on the wrong setting and rpm's aren't reading correct, can or could that affect the way the engine runs? I wouldn't think so but had to ask.

No, it won't affect running. How many poles did you set the tach for?

I did some reading and I think 8, but the mechanic said I need to set it for 12, and I haven't pulled it out and changed it. I think now it won't go above about 2000.

Update, put another coil plate on it, and the brain box, new used. It maybe ran a little better. The prop is a 19 pitch and I have added a lot of weight, anyone feel it's a prop issue?

Need to have the tach reading accurately before water testing current prop. with a lot of weight at wot. If not, expect wild guessing answers...
