I have already removed all the rub rails and rivets and have lifted the front part of the cap, I am having trouble locating the seperation point at the transom does anyone know what I sjhould look for here on these boats. I need to remove the cap to replace the floors and stringers and bulkheads. Thanks everyone!DSC00026.jpgDSC00047.jpgDSC00042.jpg

Re: 89 Bayliner quantum help

Well poke your head up there on the inside to see if there is any tabbing..

If there is only putty holding the trans on ..well..um.. flat crow bar, sweat tears and lots of cussin ?

Be Very careful when you have pressure on that cap like you do on the front in case it POPS !

The transom seems to be solid, the splash well appears to be part of it as I can not find the seration at the top of the transom for the splash well. I'll post more pics as I get er done. Thanks for the help!:)

Re: 89 Bayliner quantum help

Your probably going to be doing the transom now too :( ..

Im kinda positive that you have a bonded splashwell trans..which means you need to take a flat crowbar or a chancesaw ( chainsaw ) into the trans to separate the deck/trans joint. .. or you might be ripping/tearing your splash well apart on the finish side ( you dont want that ).

Work from the top down.

Thanks I will get on it real soon. I believe you are right the transom probably needs attention to. That sucks.

Re: 89 Bayliner quantum help

Just wondering..did someone already cut into the splashwell right there at the transom edge ? It kinda looks like it in the second pic in your new series..

Might not be a bad Idea do the same thing if its already been done. Or even a good idea if it has not been done :) .

It would only be three small seams that you would have to glass/finish back after your resto..

The motor is not pushing the deck ;) ..

Re: 89 Bayliner quantum help

No the splash well has not been cut, I don't what that spot is. I was thinking of cutting along the back bottom of the splash well at the transom and across the corners of the transom at the motor well to release the cap, then redesigning the splash well by cutting the front protrusion off and shorting it to the edge of the cap where the deck would be attached. What do you think?

Yes and Yes man :) ..

Think of the back of the splashwell as part of the transom now..

So Yes.. cut as close to the transom edge as possible .. and deal with the now transom/splashwell backface.

Get that thing off of there and move on lol ..

Cut just at the back end of the well.. 3 cuts .. AT the Transom in the Spashwell

I think we are on the same page here..

Dont have that nose jacked up when your cuttin. put that nose back down before your cuts or you might shift the deck when it 'Releases' and hurt someone ..

Re: 89 Bayliner quantum help

I made three cuts, one at each corner of the transom and one along the bottom of the splash well, I connected these cuts down the side of the slash well. The cap is now ready to lift off. I will get that done next weekend. I'll post pics as soon as I get it done.

Yup, across the bottom underside and up the sides. I cut that out from the topside. Will be posting more pics next week.
