Very nice!! But listen, next time cut out 2 pcs, one to layer over the other. If it's for tabing make it 3" wider. After you roll out your first pc. Smoke a butt, crack a beer, mix up some ready to go measured pol..poll poly. Whew that was hard to spell. I'm so use to EEEEEEEEEEEEEpooooxxyyyyy!
Lay your next glass, do the same process. Now you have what is called wet on wet and it's a better mechanical/chemical bond. Either way works though. Just seems to me to make the whole job go faster ya see.:eyebrows::eyebrows:

Thanks man! Yes I already had the next layer cut and ready but I barley had enough working time to get this layer down before it started to kick!

I've decided to put a fuel tank under the deck directly in front of the bilge. My old tank is 22 gal and sat on the port side of the deck next to the engine. That's a lot of added weight on the stern and the new one being about centered should help the boat handle a lot better.

Only tank I could find that would work was a plastic moeller 18gal. I'm losing 4 gallons of capacity but I think the pros outweigh the cons. The fill and vent ports on the tank will end up right in front of the engine behind the rear bench seat.

Now my question. I want to use the original fill and vent which were directly above the old tank but it's going to be bout a 36" run through the engine compartment (or under the engine in the bilge)and then up 24". Is there straight filler neck pipe I can utilize or should I do the whole run in hose? Any ideas guys?

Thoughts? There is pictures on post #120. Green blob is the tank, red is the fill and vent ports. Orange arrow is where the current filler and vent are located.

And the new underdeck tank. The aft of this tank will be right at the bilge bulkhead. Should I seal off the bilge or leave the space open under the tank? Before the bulkhead had a hole in the bottom so anything in the bilge would flow into the ski locker and vice versa.

I would do the run in A2 fuel hose. The hose cannot dip below the level of the tank or you will have issues filing the tank. It should be sloped toward the tank so all the gas can flow out of the hose into the tank. I would leave a path for water under the tank. I used CPVC pipe for my drainage.

hey man thats all goin smoooth - are you planning on 'capping' the stringers before the deck goes down? encapsulating all the timber waterproofs it into the future. Just round the edges first so the cloth can lay flat.

Yeah I plan on using that stout black fill hose, is that A2? Also the fill will all be above deck level so no issues of dipping below. I just don't like the idea of running it next to the motor all the way to the rear fill, so I might move the filler and vent to the port gunwale.

As far as the tank coffin, I was thinking I could put the pvc at an upward angle towards the bilge so water in the locker could flow to the bilge but not the other direction unless the water level goes above that pipe.

Yes sir I am going to cap the stringers with CSM, I just haven't got there yet.

Feeling overwhelmed on this project so I took the weekend off and drug my "go fast" boat to the lake.

I'm back!

I got the new tank coffin glassed in, I built and glassed the "batwings" for exhaust clearance and capped the tops of the stringers.

Last weekend I finished fitting the final pieces for the deck and sealed the bottom with a layer of CSM. Also finished the ski locker with a layer of CSM and painted it.

Now time for a question...

I'm back to the cracked strake that started this whole fiasco.

So a while ago I filled the strake from the inside. I started with 3 layers of 1708, first 2" second 4" third 6". Then partially filled the strake with PB then another layer of 1708 over that.

Now I'm on the outside. I've ground down the gel coat, about 2" each side of the tip of the strake, and ground down to good glass. A couple spots I went all the way to the PB. Anyways what should my layup be for the outside and what should I use to make the final shape?

Fairing compound. How do I make it?

I need to shape the strake and prepare for paint.

Here is the WOG compound. I used this with much success.
