Newbie here....Recently bought an 86 ski supreme to make some family memories with. I have the intentions of overhauling the boat. motor is currently out getting rebuilt. Velvet drive was recently overhauled 2-3 year ago ( new clutches). Took the angle iron motor mounts off and found the stringer to be rotten through the bolt holes (at least the bolts I could get out). I plan on doing a stringer replacement. I'm looking for advice on how to make up templates or jigs to keep the proper angle of the stringer forward to aft so it mounts flush to the hull. I have not removed any material yet to assess the condition of the total stringer, I'm assuming after 31 years there will not be much left. Any help or advice on this project I would greatly appreciate...Thx for your time

Welcome to the madness. Pictures with a tape for reference. Cardboard templates of what is there. How far is the engine off of the hull? Where is it centered? Make your measurements from locations that will not change. Sides of hull ect. Also post up some pics here we love them

To second 'proshadetree'. Some templates, but I would recomend something a bit more durable than cardboard ( use some 1/8" 'door skin' (real cheap interior plywood), or 1/8" Masonite). Measure the height of the front and rear motor mounts up from the bottom of the boat. I would also suggest taking the measurement from the center bolt on the carburetor flame arrestor to the transom (that makes a good reference dimension).
Just be aware that no matter how carefully you measure, document and reproduce things you will have to go through a normal engine alignment procedure when you drop the engine back in. (It won't be a drop it in and go.)

Also,.... if you haven't thought it through yet, and so you are aware, the motor mounts and stringers on an inboard have to perform a bit of a different function than on an inboard outboard (I/O) or an outboard. On those. All the thrust (pushing force) required to move the boat is on the transom. On an inboard, all the thrust from the prop is transferred up the prop shaft, through a thrust bearing in the back of the reverse gear to the engine, and then to the motor mounts. So, in an inboard it is the motor mounts, engine beds and stringers that are dragging the boat through the water.
So good for you for taking care of them.

Your tape measure and camera are definitely your best friends right now. If you can cut your stringers loose of the hull you can use those as a template. I was able to use a vibrating tool with plunge blades to save a lot of pattern wood above deck. Unfortunately my stringers were almost nonexistent. Those will be built from scratch for my Chap.

The attached photos are of my 1986 ski supreme. Long story short there are no stringers installed on this particular boat. I thought the stringers may have rotten due to being able to push a screwdriver down through the engine bracket mounting holes, only to find out its foam. It looks to me as tho this boats construction is like a "uni-body". I have since decided to not replace the stringers and go with what I have.........unless someone here has some better ideas??:confused: I have learned that some part of 85 and further is when ski supreme started going fully composite. Unfortunately it makes for a heavier boat as well as the foam is water logged. Other then that I do not plan on racing this, or competitive ski with this. This boat is strictly for family fun.

​I guess I'm looking for advice on how to repair the cut away I have made and make it structural again. I am open to any ideas or advice for this project. Thank you guys so much for reading and commenting on my posts.

​Also as you can see the outside of the hull has condensation, I believe this to be due to the foam on the inside being water logged and the outside air temp being warmer then the inside of the hull temp. I live in Halifax Nova Scotia today was a fairly warm day for Feb, 12 degrees. Trying to take advantage when its nice.

I have a 1980 that I started a stringer project on (+5 years ago) and they look nothing like that. Based on my knowledge (Limited), I think the foam you are seeing in the stringers was used to mold the stringers and the glass itself is structural. I would say you are much better of leaving in place and repairing like you said. I'd check with any local boat repair or fiberglass shops on your area for a price or repair advice. With the style of system you have, the biggest problem I heard of was the bolts corroding and breaking off due to dissimilar metals, there is a handful of you tube videos showing how to repair the engine mount bolts on ski Supremes.
