Soetimes there are straps that hold them in place but I'm sure you would of noticed that. Some pictures would help to so we can see what your working with.

A picture would help. If there are no obvious fasteners, whoever replaced it might have bedded the tank in some 5200. Did you pressure test the tank before doing all of this? Your fuel lines might have been the source of the fuel leak.

Frank asked "what is 5200?"

5200 ia a GM marine calk product which creates a waterproof bond that is about as close to perminate as it gets. 5200 is the quick cure version of the original 5400 product which took about a week to set up.

While I doubt anyone would use this calk product to bed a gas tank..... if it was done..... you may need to destroy the tank to remove it.

Someone mentioned air testing the tank before you proceed further.... and either air pressure or air vacuum should work.

A automotive radiator tester or vacuum pump should work well.... you just need to do whatever is necessary to securely hook either tool to a tank opening and plug any other tank orifice.

I hope this helps. :D

86? Remove it. I just removed mine from my 87. Ethanol aids in the pitting/corrosion which will be on the bottom due to gravity when you pull it out. If there are no straps, then it is a pain to pull out. In other words it has to stay level when pulling it out. Even with the straps it was tricky by myself. You could just cut some holes and put straps through it and two people dead lifting it out in sync should work. I doubt it is glued in because there is no need.

Can't wait to see you pics of this restored.

Have fun.
