Use this topic for documenting resto work on the hull or Mods you're making to the layout.

Keep the Mercruiser motor work in your Mercruiser topic:

Im using the original 3.7 mercruiser.
Ive updated everything I could.
So far I like the motor. It has a lot of torque.Its. Its no speed demon but it gets up on plane immediately than cruises at 25 mph at 3500rpm.
…….but. The wiring on this boat is so bad.
the harness itself has degraded beyond explanation. The wire itself inside the harness is bad. As well as the plugs inside. At the pins.
I could write a novel on what Ive learned.
Just on wiring. If you have a 3.7 most people would probably blame engine trouble On the 3.7 when in fact it is probably bad wiring.

Heres my engine customization. I removed the water pump shaft from camshaft. I than counterbored the timing chain sprocket to accept new stainless stub shaft.this is a slide fit with less than .002“ run out. I used 318 stainless because it is hard and should stand up to seal wear better than original.

Nice fix will be interested to see how it holds up.
