Not sure but it looks like there is either a primer coat on the tank or some zinc chromate coating. Do you have any plans on priming or finishing the tank before install?

gm, there is what seems to be a coat of yellow paint on the tank. I am thinking that I will just sand it off so that I can see what the tank looks like. As for painting, I don't know yet.

Hey NM, I reckon you should paint it a two tone grey/burgundy or at least stencil a clamp or two on it:thumb::lalala:

So. I put some air pressure in the tank, soaped it down really good, and this was the only place that I got bubbles. I was planning on replacing the sending unit anyway, so this doesn't bother me at all.

.

I had to work this weekend, so that is about all that I got done. Hopefully more to come soon.

She's back on the trailer!

Doing some much needed clean up in the boat and shop, then gonna start playing around with the inside!

Damn that is a Bad A** looking machine. Great job so far nurse

Thanks Mark, I am pretty happy with how things have turned out so far.

I still think it needs White Side Walls!!!!:D:eek:
Umm, no.:puke: I used to have the tire shop turn the white wall in so I wouldn't have to see them. Looks good on the vintage stuff, but not my preference.

Thanks Sam, I was thinking about just a black stripe, because I don't have any red vinyl striping, and I am not real interested in taping and painting a red stripe (at least right now...)

Ok guys, I am looking for some opinions/advice here with my gas tank placement. When I got that 30 gal tank put inside the boat, I realized that it was pretty big. I am somewhat concerned with weight at the stern. (I don't know if my concern is justified or not, as I have never had the boat in the water, so I don't know how she sits.) I realize that I don't have to fill the tank full, but I know that the big ole Evinrude will be thirsty. I had the thought of putting the tank in the bow, and just putting my casting deck over the top of the tank. Something like this.

the batteries for the trolling motor would then go in front of the tank. (I think). The problem with this is that it will waste about 8" under the tank, as can be seen here.

The other spot that I am considering is approximately here, with the trolling batteries up front still, and possibly the starting battery as well. The rear casting deck would then cover the tank.

In reality, there will probably only be three people in the boat, (it is rated for 4) I just don't have any boating experience to draw from to use in the planning and layout. Any opinions or thoughts will be appreciated.

My only concern would be getting her up on plane. Even if you fill her to 20 gallons that's approx. 160 lbs. at the point of the bow. If you add batteries etc. it might be problematic. I'm NOT a Nautical Engineer, Just an Old Dumb Okie so I'll let others chime in!!!

Should there be any concern on which direction the tank is mounted? Is it dependent on the baffles? Also if possible make the tank removable without destruction

From what I could tell by looking in with a flashlight, the baffles run across the tank the short way.

Well you could always float her ... Then place some weight to mimic how it would float ... If we were close by there are plenty of us over weight members that could be used as movable weight ...

One thing you should keep in mind NM, is that you might not want to put the fuel tank in the same closed "compartment" as the batteries or other spark-able items.....absent of a blower system......that's what ive been told anyway...
