Okay, seems you like things a little different then the normal. Ha, I do too. Nice work there. I know how hard it is to tape off a wheel. In fact when I did something similar to some car wheels once, I actually removed the tires to keep from taping off the tire. Keep posting and moving forward. :thumb:

While you're at it, you ought to paint some white sidewalls on your tires!!!!!

How much PB did you mix to cover the transom Im doing one about the same size it would give me a good idea how much to mix qt- 1/2 gal or more , rather than guessing thanks

Hey slimdaddy, thanks for dropping by! IIRC, I used about 4 qts to bed and fillet the transom. A 1/4" notched trowel to spread it on the skin and transom. A helper is really nice as well. If you read through post #128, I give a pretty detailed play by play. If you haven't started a thread on your project, you might want to. That way you will be able to get all of your questions answered. (Plus we like pics of that kind of stuff!) Good luck!

Wow, all the way back on page 8! I should be posting more often I guess... Scored a gas tank on CL today! 30 gal aluminum tank for $40!

Needs a bit of cleanup, but I think this will work good.
Finally got the trailer wiring done, so I am almost ready to get back to actual boat work!

I was planning on pressure testing it, how many lbs of pressure should the tank hold, and for how long?

I have never done such things, but I would think that any little pressure would work. A mere 5 to 10 pounds would show up most any type leak. Seal the inlet hole and the outlet and vent is there is any vent and use a football pump if you don't have any other pressure setup. Then seal it off and use soapy water and apply that to all the seems and see if any bubbles show up. Not hard to do at all. If it holds the pressure for a while, sound like it is good to go to me. Others will chime in with ideas as well. JMHO!

I read somewhere to use no more than 5 lbs. Any more could distort the tank. Nice score, by the way! As gm280 says just soap test everything. I don't think you'd need it to hold the pressure for more than an hour or so, but that's just my guess.

Oh, and trailer wiring does count as boat work, so you get full marks for that. :)

If I remember correctly you don't want to much pressure. I believe 3lbs max

Not sure but it looks like there is either a primer coat on the tank or some zinc chromate coating. Do you have any plans on priming or finishing the tank before install?
