Come on up north if the bugs are too bad down there! Not a bug to be seen for at least 5 months out of the year!!!
"Come to Minnesota" they said, "It will be fun!" they said...

BTW your work is an inspiration to the lot of us!

Thank you sir! You are too kind!

Thanks montejw! I still think of myself as a newbe too. You won't go wrong following the advice of the super folks here on iboats!

Happy New Year everyone! Got the year off to a good start with some progress. Got the paint booth done today. Got the poly on the walls and ceiling

After that was done, I got the intake fans put in. I used 3/4" foam to seal around the fans, and a good furnace filter on the outside to make sure no junk gets blown in.

Here is a shot of the back of the booth ready to rock n roll.

and one of the exhaust filter setup

For a door, I just made a slit in the wall, and hung a piece of poly in front of that, with tape across the top and down one side, the pressure in the booth pushes the flap against the wall, and seals it up, it works pretty well.

The last thing to do was rig up a way to get the exhaust air out of the shop, but not let in too much cold air. so I made a retractable duct that I can wedge under the overhead door when spraying, and retract when I am done. Here it is retracted

and extended

Here it is from the outside

After I got all that done, I still had some time, so I put some paper down on the floor, and got ready to shoot primer.

Got two coats of primer shot on her! I have to say that I am fairly pleased with how she looks, just some pin-holes in a few places. This is after the second coat.

The primer tech sheet said between 50 and 90 degrees, so I heated the shop up to 60, and went to town. I plan to do some block sanding with 320 tomorrow night and then I should have a good idea of how many rounds of priming and sanding will be needed. I am super pleased with how well the booth worked, there was almost no odor in the shop, and no carp in the primer either. :joyous:

Wood, I used the Rust-oleum Primer Surfacer and reduced it with Rust-oleum's Special Reducer. I used just over 1/2 gallon of primer, which was reduced 1:1 by volume as per the on can instructions and the tech sheet. So I shot about 1 gallon of material on the boat over 2 coats. The gun is a cheap HVLP from Menards that I have had for a while.

It has a 1.4 and a 2.0 tip. I was using the 2.0 tip for the primer, with 40lbs of pressure at the gun. I had the air almost all the way up and the material was about 3/4 of the way open. The last thing that I sprayed with this gun was some poly on the Admirals dining room table, so I will probably have to do some test shooting with the paint to get the gun dialed in.
