Your place on the water is amazing man! I that beach is sweet!

We eyeballed a few places along Huron a few years back, had an agreement on one that ended up falling through.

Now I am holding out for something on the other side of the mitt. Though, I won't be able to afford even the smallest of places until I am old and gray.

Looks like you guys are having a great vacation!

You know that I love Islanders:D...and I totally agree. Nothing keeps the spray and splash off ya like a big deep Islander. We got our fair share of water in the face with these winds.

I will own a Starcraft Islander one of these days:cool:

Well Jason, I apologize. Looks like Mike is on your side.
Mike that water sure looks nice. Not very often I see clear water like that, but then again your lakes are bigger & colder. Very nice place your Dad has, glad you enjoyed your vacation. Now get back to fishing, err, I mean work.

I don't recall seeing pics of the big 'uns you caught:confused:

Yah, I was just messing with him. He has had his sights set on an Islander for a while now. I wonder if he has a stash of cash under his mattress ready and waiting for just the deal to come by!

Cheers!

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Now let me get this straight.
Mike has a SS, but would like to have an Islander........check.
Jason has an Islander, but wants to have a SS.........check.

Ok, so I know a trade is out, logistics complications. I know Mike is very close but not yet finished and Jason is moving along. Put that fact aside, new boats/restorations are fothcoming, and NB has bought another SC to convert to a CC.
Yep, looks like I'll have some good reading and learning this winter.:D
at least between my own project:redface:
I wonder what EZ's next boat will be:confused:

My SS is the biggest boat that will fit in my garage. I don't see anything else in my future. Now will I someday seek out a nice 140HP outboard? Probably. I quenched my thirst for larger hull and another project by convincing my good friend to buy a 21' Chieftain. We'll have fun working on that this winter. Not to mention, for me, this winter will be about getting back to work on my train layout which got neglected all last year. I do have some more work to do on the SS as well. My bow deck needs to be redone and a stern casting box added.

Thanks Dale, the water is strikingly clear(thanks in part to zeba mussels invasion) you can see more than 20ft down and see fish androcks on the bottom. It's deceiving when you think it's 3' and the big motor should be tilted up...only to realize bottom is 15+:D

I didn't take any photos, we caught some bluegill over on Fletcher's Floodwaters, I trolled for walleye a bit(no strikes) on Lake Huron, and also fished Burt Lake a bit.

We weren't as focused on fishing as much as we normally are...I did spend lots of time clearing new trails to drive the quads on, which took up some of my fishing time;)

Great looking lake house HA. Enjoy your holiday!

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I've got some news on the Merc...she's been starting awfully hard lately and I've decided to go ahead and take a look at the carbs.

As mentioned by Ezmobee I've never gotten the performace that I should being an 80hp since I got the outboard free with the boat. Rigging a tach would only confirm this I'm sure.

I will be keeping an eye out for a Johnnyrude over the winter, I've seen a couple 70hp 3cyl outboards that come with rotten fiberglass hulls...:)

We capped off the vacation with a camping trip to Burt Lake state park. It's a 11 mile long lake, part of the inland waterway and a hugely popular boating destination. The two-lane ramp at the park was like grand central station with all sorts of vessels launching and retrieving.

We took the rig out for a long trolling session and covered 5-6 miles with no fish caught. I'd love to head back to this lake and do the full circle from Cheboygan down to Crooked Lake next year after the outboard situation is fixed.

I also neglected to mention the downside of all our fun in 3-5ft waves in Lake Huron...my GPS bounced right into the big lake after a rough landing on a swell:eek::rolleyes: and now rests on the rocky bottom, possibly near some of the anchors I lost out there as a kid:D

The inland waterway is a nice trip. We did it once on a friends boat. We camped at Burt Lake State Park and went to Cheboygan one day and then went to Crooked Lake the next. Hopefully I can do the trip with my boat next year.

LOL the good news is that it was a free car GPS, not the pricey marine contour ones:D I didn't actually see it happen, I was standing up rolling thru some swells and all I know is it's not where it was supposed to be:)

We could've used it in the truck on the rest of the vacation too, had to go back to paper maps;)

Yeah the state park at Burt Lake is one of the best around if you ask me...everything you need right there, plenty of room to beach/moor a boat, nice beach and not too far to drive to get more beer and firewood:D

My TomTom would be better off on the bottom of the lake.

LOL :D Mine was a Garmin but I agree. Other than accurate speed it was pretty much useless on the boat.

Thanks Paul...every time I go back and visit up north it makes me really wonder why I ever left:)

Then I quickly realize that this is Michigan and without my job downstate the boating budget would vanish faster than a Detroit Lions lead at halftime;)

Let me know when you are heading back here again, maybe next summer eh?

I didn't realize that Starcraft had made a fiberglass twin to my SuperSport back in '79 until I came across this one today:)

A new piece for your stable? :D

LOL...:D I'm gonna have to pass since those sweet-looking side window pieces aren't conducive to fishing:)

Check my new thread in the SC forum if you want to know what we are eyeballing to add to the fleet:cool:

Oh no... he's feeling the need... the need for greed! :D (I'm just jealous :(, a camper would be cool but our house is small enough to be able to pretend!)
