Some more photos of the rig out on the big lake.

Happy captain:)

Middle Island, home of an old lighthouse and many wrecked ships. These waters are part of a national marine sanctuary since there are so many shipwrecks.

We have caught salmon near a few of them, a German freighter the Nordmeer wrecked in the 70s and is a great spot to fish 9 miles out.

Trolling some Rapala's, hoping a chinook or walleye will strike.

The rig looks at home beached on the shores on Lake Huron. I really don't trust this lake enough to moor the rig, there is a small craft warning on right now and we have to cancel a fishing trip planned for tomorrow morning on a friend's boat due to high winds.

Some more photos of a happy crew. The boys each slept while we ran out into 2-3' waves at 18mph. We couldn't believe they didn't wake up. I used to sleep in the bow of my dad's 20' Sea Nymph in some waves so maybe it's hereditary:)

This is a shot into the bay after we got back. You can see some whitecaps out there...the lake always seems calm from shore since we are protected by points on the NW and SE, and also the island. Once you get out a bit the waves keep getting bigger.

That's one thing you can always count on. It is flat like glass at 6am sometimes but not for long.

God I love those red kiekhaefer Merc motors! Beautiful powerheads!

Nice pics sir! Really like the color of your boat, always have. Think you ought to keep it on the hull, maybe go something different inside but the yellow on the hull looks good!

Nice pics! Catch any fish whilst you were trolling (you never say yay or nay)?

A picture is worth a thousand words and ALL those smiles are priceless. Heck, I swear I even see the boat smiling:) Glad you and the crew are haveing a great time, remember those of us that have to work...not. How come youre not using the kicker for trolling? You know we are all envious, well, at least me...a little...ok a lot.;)

Thanks Chuck...we are keeping the sunset yellow. Roslynn wants to keep the yellow on the inside. I was leaning towards going with all grey on the interior to match the vinyl.

Yeah I like how the Merc looks...she needs some work done but idles down nicely. I was having issues when accelerating, I think the high-speed jets are having problems maybe.

No fish, we only trolled for 30-45min and I was just glad to be able to do so without getting hung up on weeds:D(the small lakes downstate are not conducive to trolling).

LOL I was telling Roslynn the same thing...the rig loved being out on the open water and testing her integrity on some real waves for once.:D

My 5.5hp Johnson is acting up a bit recently and didn't want to stay running yesterday. This is why I am a fan of having three motors on the rig in case Murphy shows up out on the water.

Like I always say...boating is like whack-a-mole...solve one problem and 2-3 more pop right up:D

Thanks for all the kind words fellas, we are having a great time up here:)

I've got some more videos to post on here also, unfortunately none of our trip back to the dock in the big swells, since we left the cameras behind. We knew it was gonna be a long, wet ride back to Rockport:D

It would be nice...I'm glad that old Merc runs at all:D

I'd like a 70hp Johnnyrude that spins 5500:D On a side note my dad almost traded his 16' Sea Nymph for a 1986 Sea Nymph 20'(same as a SuperSport, the same boat he bought new in '86).

The bigger one comes with a 70hp Johnson that would be an "extra" motor that I would have been able to wrestle away from my dad for a good price. I wake up this morning and he's looking at a 19' fiberglass CC that I had to talk him out of.

My dad has 4foot-itis and I'm trying to convince him to hold out for a 18-22' Starcraft Mariner.;)

Hey Buddy, don't make any plans to stop at Sanford on your way back to Lansing!

There are issues with the dike and the lake is down about four feet. I think you could probably launch the SS if you had a tilt trailer and, oh, about a 200' long tongue!

Sounds like they won't have that fixed up until after boating season.

Enjoy your time on the water up there!

Great pix & vid Mike, I can see a new avatar from the beached photo's ;) awesome!
Don't let them waves slow ya down none, wild rides made cedar point what it is, and you can now embrace them with the thought of...hey, this didn't cost $ 45.00 a day per person for {due to the waiting in line} three 2 minute rides. :D

Hope everyone is having a blast!

I think I know what would handle a little better in that big lake. Have you taken a look at the Starcraft Islander? I think you'd like it:D

You know that I love Islanders:D...and I totally agree. Nothing keeps the spray and splash off ya like a big deep Islander. We got our fair share of water in the face with these winds.

I will own a Starcraft Islander one of these days:cool:

We had the rig out on Lake Huron again this afternoon....you can see the rock pile that is Rockport harbor in the back ground.

It's an old limestone quarry. The biggest limestone quarry in the world is a little bit NW up the shore near Rogers City, also home of the best salmon tourney around back in the 80s.

In open water looking back at shore.

The rig beached on the Lake Huron shoreline. It sure looks calm from shore...we were surfing 2-3'+ waves on the way back to the harbor again.:D

My folks have a sweet hideout on the big lake. Easy to see from shore since my dad has a huge tower for his satellite internet. It used to be pretty hard to spot from the water.

We are lucky to have such a nice beach on the property, most of Lake Huron is rocky.

Not if I see it first.
I'm fed up with glass.

Always room in the armada for another Islander:)

Check out craiglook.com...tons of old tin cans out there that could use a bit of work. No itching or rusting anyhow:D

Do you see many Starcrafts in the Boston area?
