Re: 78 starcraft ss redo

I think I am going with the starcraft white and navy blue. I don't like the po paint job.

Sounds like a good choice. Kinda what i was thinking on my SC as well.

I found an engine I might purchase, but before I do I wanted to run it by the fleet and get some input. Any body using or have used a

1993 yahama 85hp outboard. Model: C85TLRR ?.

Lots of tough work done so far on your SS, looks like a nice solid ride. Awesome find, especially nice is the 78's don't have the soggy pour in foam, just the old Styrofoam. I don't know about the Yam's or what you had for controls in the boat but make sure you get the controls along with the motor, it'll make life much easier.

Don't know if anyone's running that Yam motor, but I've never heard anyone complain about them either.........

I have a 96 yamaha C85 on an 18' century center console, pushes it along nicely with 2 people. Its a little picky on the cold start, but once warmed, it wil start by almost just touching the key...pretty simple engine and easy to work on...I believe the C series are commercial motors...but i havnt confirmed that.

The naked Lady is running an 1987 Yamaha 85, great motor, simple to work on. If I had one complaint it would be the rough idle it has.

Sounds like a great setup for that boat I would think an 85 hp yammy would move her along quite well.

I know I am a little late on this but the Starcraft rubrail is manufactured by Wefco,

So it is wefco rubber model 0101g it is $2.40 per linear foot.

Sweet looking set up and I will be along for the ride if you need a little help.

Just for curiousity sake how much did you shell out for her?

I only gave $250.00, but had to drive 3.5 hrs. to get her.

Tagging along if that's ok.
Nice looking start. There are allot of great ideas here on what direction to take your SS. I like the way Sig's is turning out. Working on replacing the transom in ours. I think they have great lines.

That's our 82 16 footer.

Does the trolling motor have a 48" shaft? I am hoping that it is 'cause I already own one. I didn't want to shell out more dough for a longer shaft model.

I'll measure it tomorrow and let you know. I'll take some better pics too. It is mounted a little weird because of the bow rails.

Ok so I think my trolling motor is a 36" shaft. Here's what I measured.

It is a model 730 28Lbs of thrust. It moves our boat fine, but when the water gets choppy it will bounce out of the water. The prop is real close to the waterline.

The po mounted it in the center of the bow. Not really ideal, but it does work. Kind of uncomfortable for anyone who rides in the bow until we stop to fish.

Hope this helps. If I'm measuring wrong for the shaft length please let me know.

Pictures are great. Looks like my 48" shaft will work. Thanks again.

No problem. I may change the angle it's mounted at this coming summer. Like I said it only matters if we have more than three people in the boat. Then someone has to ride up front with the motor sticking out next to them.

Re: 78 starcraft ss redo

I have been working on the trailer lately, i have a question about the rollers they were 4.25" smooth black ones. I removed them all to get it ready for paint. When I took them off they were only sitting on the metal, the roller shaft is .75" wide . Is there any type of bushing that goes on the shaft? The shaft is pretty short .75" with a hole for the hog ring.

The rollers on my EZ Loader are just on the shaft too, no bushings. I don't think the rollers do much rolling at least as far as wearing out goes.
