Well I had some time today and boxed in the one side. Its pretty solid. Ill do the other side maybe tomorrow, but I will first have to trim the foam more incase I end up with a console first. I have the bow facing piece of the side I did cut just rigth so if I have to remove the side wall it too will slide out just snug enough under the splash well.

Almost made it to HD today to get some more stuff to start the seating, maybe tomorrow?....

thanks oldhaven, cant wait test it out on the actual water one of these days! It really does seem like a nice addition to space available since the under SW is packed with foam. Good news is I was just outside and the gas tank still slides in there!

Got to home depot and went over budget.... ooops.... wife will kill me later but i got the bench seat started. Still might split it half and make a filler pieceto make a whole bench. but it is getting there. this I will seal good with spar because I want it to last. Its still a plan in the making. These pics may be out of order,but you get the idea.

Probaby not, unless a motor falls in my lap or Santa is for real! Fingers are crossed for both though.

Todays project. Seal the wood for the bench. I went with thompsons since I had it instead of spar which I would have prefered. But I will do several coats and paint it. Probably carpet all of it too if I have enough on hand.

Also cutting some aluminum to make a dry area. At this point im not going full bench. Ill figure a way to make this area as deep as the boards going across. Working on the fly is kinda fun.

Having underneath the bench open will help put longer palm fronds/branches in the boat as well too.

Working lil too fast here, but used a shop fan to help dry things and get done quicker. I know dry and cured are two different things, but Im good with redoing in a few years to improve the design. Once used I will probably find a few things to redo better anyhow. Got some weight on top to help the carpet set with glue for now. break and lunch time.

Finished for the day. Still need to plan how I want the lid to open up.




Still have to box in the sides. I do like the way it turned out. Not exactly square, but it will work

That is turning out really good.. Going to make a nice seat and some storage too..
Put some hinges on it and some struts..

Ill try order 2 in the next week or so. Any recommendations for hinges? Bench is 55" long. Would a 36" piano hinge work centered or should i try 3 ss door hinges?

Thanks for the props lklvng! Been at it almost a year now i think? Close to it maybe. Slow and steady with slight burst of occasional fast and furious.

I've used a couple of hatch springs, on my SN's cooler lid and the Chief's forward hatch. I can say they work well if what they hold up is light. I don't know how well they would work for a heavier ply with carpet and seats attached. A gas lift rated to hold the weight may be a better way to go.
