Weather makes it tough for sure. That and work. I dont mind being out in the cold. Was really hoping I could fit it in the garage with the motor off. No luck there. Have an ice fishing tournament this weekend so I'll get after the boat again next week. Any recommendations on getting this thing off the trailer and flipped?

That was one of my requirements for my project was being able to fit in a garage. Always want a bigger boat, but only had room for the 16.

As for flipping the boat, a case of beer and one or two helpers. The boat should be very light with everything removed. I did clamp a couple 2 x 4s across the beam just to make sure I didn't bend the hull when flipping.

Started warming up finally, managed to get the now not frozen blocks of foam out. Weather looks to be continuing on the up trend hopefully I'll get a leak test in sooner rather then later. Everything actually looks really good down below.

Winter progress is tough to come by, even small accomplishments add up. Looks like you going to be onto the clean up and hull repairs in no time.
Prime boatwork season is a really tiny window if you don't have a heated workspace. A lot depends on your tolerance for spending boating season working in your drydock(regardless of fleet status)... but there are many tasks that are not viable except for when I'd rather be on the water, or the handful on good-weather days during thaw.

Weather looks good for this weekend, plan on getting the transom out and hull clean up. I still have plans for the offshore bracket. That being said when I cut the new transom instead of follow the U shape I'm just going to cut straight across from gunnel to gunnel. While doing that there will obviously be expose wood from 20" inches up. I'll follow the process to epoxy should I worry about covering it with an aluminum skin or let it be. I'll post pictures once I get working on it.

I plan on picking up wood today, a see a lot of guys using acx, do you think bcx would work, I believe the a indicates the external veneer being smother I plan to cover all decking with hydroturf so appearance is of no real importance.

For a transom having the less finished BCX is not a problem.

I would for sure cover the exposed section of wood with an AL plate back buttered with 5200. Your motor pod might be larger or need to sit higher than the 20" existing transom height.

Once your wood is laminated together, don't forget the top edge of the transom needs to be cut at a 15 degree angle to fit under the transom end caps.

The bracket will definitely be higher then the old transom, I should sit right at 24 inches. Thanks for the input.

Weather was good today, managed to get the transom out, surprisingly not a terrible process. Got the new deck cut and ready for epoxy. Did notice I have a slight crack on my knee brace. Will have to get that welded up.

If I am reading this right, you are lifting the entire transom level? Are you going to add a bracket for the motor so it is at the right height?

Yes, I plan on raising the transom see red line and looking to add an offshore bracket, plan to add extra supports to transom from gunnel to gunnel. One where the offshore bracket is mounted and another closer to the top of the transom.

I like the idea of raising the Transom, I modified mine too.

You going to add any extra knee braces in addition to the gunnel to gunnel support?

I dont know that it is necessary the bottom of the offshore bracket will come across the knee brace I'll run c channel at the top of bracket tied into the gunnels and another square aluminum bar across top of the transom tied into the tunnels. I will run matching bars maybe 6 inches forward and tie those back into the supports on the transom finish it off with a ply cover and hatch to hide and wire and cables.

Just something to thing about, you are creating additional leverage that the transom wasn't designed for, but up to you. Either way, as long as you are happy and confident in it then that is all that matters.

You got any pictures of the offshore bracket you are going to install?

I was able to get the transom glued this weekend with the help of a heater in the garage. Cut it today and setting in for a dry fit and its stuck lol. Cant get it further in or out at this point. Really think I just need a second set of hands so I'll get after it some more when I have some help. Hope everyone is do alright with all the craziness going on.

Looking good from here in WA State, spending time at home on days off and wishing for some fishing.

That's a good sign...it wants to stay in the boat b/c it likes it so much! :love_heart:

You got any pictures from the inside? May have to get a jack in there to help leverage it out.

I ended up getting it out. When I cut the tabs under the corner caps I did cut them large enough. Both in and out it was catching on that. When i took to original transom out it was 3 pieces so the right gap didnt com in to play. I will trim it back should be no problem. Spoke with the fabricator for the bracket he can get it done for about 800, good deal compared to the prefabbed ones online. He can do a belly tank for me as well for 400. I need to dry fit the transom and bolt it in. He wants the boat on hand to fit bracket and tank.
