'72 50hp Mercury Outboard

I recently purchased a '72 50hp Mercury Outboard. I hooked up the water muffs and started it. Shouldn't there me a stream of water coming out?

If it's got a tell tale, then yes. Some of the old mercs do and some do not.. However, a good rule of thumb is to replace the impeller on a new to you outboard

Yes, locate the indicator hole and run a piece of weedeater string up the hole. Insects like to build nests in i.t

Replace the impeller. A MUST. when you pull off the cover you will know if it has a tell tale/ pee. A hose from the top of the head to the bottom of the cowl.
