So. Much. Sanding.

The TotalBoat Total Fair is great to work with, easy to move and sands really well. The darker green spots are the low spots, not anything deep, just need to keep applying compound and keep sanding. I bought a rattle can of guide coat, can't wait til I am ready to use that.

Well since I never was a metal drummer I was not ready for this! Also having a dust mask on I get winded even quicker, maybe it has more to do with my age though. An hour here, 2 hours there...slowly getting there.

Getting close to paint! Portside bottom and front on both sides almost there. The hook is gone, woo-hoo. I did fix most of the hook with resin, CSM and 1708, a lot more time using fairing compound to get it super flat though, hoping for a smooth ride.

Nice work going on there!

Hi KC! Thanks for the kind words on your last post. I had a busy few weeks away from the boat and had ran out of fairing compound. Got back on it today and should get some more work done on it the next few days, probably not Sunday though unless I want to sleep out with it, lol. I need to get started early tomorrow and Friday, going to be 95 the next 2 days! Not any pics to take because it all looks the same, like watching paint dry. I AM getting excited though, I think it is going to look really good, glad I have taken my time through this tedious step.

I can't believe I have been fairing for 2 months. I did miss a week twice with stuff going on but I am probably at least 30 hours into this process. I do go back and look at pictures to see where I started and that helps with the frustrations of every step taking so long.

The first pic is from 6 months ago showing the poor quality of factory builds. Found several voids between gelcoat and fiberglass that first had to be filled and covered with new glass before the fairing process could start.

The second pic has a funny story with it. After covering the whole hull with CSM and then polyester fairing compound and then Totalfair I lost track of where the holes for the bow eye were, had to get the boat up on jacks so I could get inside and drill them from the inside, so much fun!

I am real close and yes I have said that before but hoping to be throwing primer on this in the next week. All the pics from the fairing process look the same but now I know how much time it takes to get a boat "fair". Another added benefit is that I am in better shape, was huffing and puffing after 15 minutes of sanding with the long board at first, yesterday went on and off for an hour and even though the heat and humidity are much worse now I didn't feel like collapsing like before.

Sam, I don't want to jinx it but I don't see any reason why not, I am shooting for the end of August. Once I get it flipped there is just a little fairing (famous last words) on the cap and then paint the cap. I have 2 motors to choose from, back to back seats are new and ready to go. Bimini top is new and ready to go. Trailer was sandblasted and powder coated before I started on the boat so this all means something is going to go wrong, right? June and July are my 2 months that are the least busy work wise so fingers crossed...

You can do paypal on the national web sight . The Fl chapter doesnt have that option . You can do that there if you wish .. My understanding is you have to be a national member to be Fl chapter member ..
You don't have to be a member of any group to go to the RRR event in Oct ..
You just need the address .. šŸ˜‹ And i can send you the guys number to reserve whatever lunch or dinner you may want . It,s really a great time .
Last year they put on a ski show right after lunch .. And they also had one guy that did all the launching and retrieving of the boats .
That worked out great seeing as there is only one ramp ..

At this point, it is probably better than the plug they used to make the molds at the factory.
Thanks Reserector, that is an awesome compliment. There will be imperfections but I think I can live with what I end up with.

Currently still putting compound on but each batch gets smaller and smaller, woohoo. The biggest problem right now is the heat. Near record heat for central Fl, I can't keep the sweat off the boat and when I take the rubber gloves off it looks like I am removing a water balloon from each hand.
