I got the transom outer skin redone. I am hoping to bed the transom in Monday. The skin was so flimsy, this stiffened it up a bit so the transom should go in easier and the outer skin won't have waves, I hope.

I don't have the bunks bolted in, just screws for now, I pulled them back so I could get some blocks screwed down to hold the sheet flush at the bottom. 2 x 2 bracing in the middle and top. The middle brace I had to screw from the inside, covered the head with masking tape and ground down the glass the next day, was worried that might not end well but luckily it did.

I ended up using 2-1708 layers for the 5" missing section (first and last layers), one 12" section and one big piece that tabbed into the hull about 4" on the 2 sides and bottom.

Transom is in! I had the whole day yesterday and with nice weather above 70 I wanted to make sure I got the transom in, filleted and tabbed in. I still need to add the drain plug and fillet around the pvc tube I will install. Earlier in the week when it was cool I used the time to grind down the outside skin of the transom. I wanted to feather all the holes so I could add some layers of 1708 on the outside, I cut a bunch of different size circles and glassed those in yesterday also.

Thanks guys, getting the transom in really feels like a milestone since I have always thought and hope it will be the one of the last big glassing tasks and now I can put the cap back on soon!
Congrats! Putting the cap back on seems so far away for my project, but I am hoping to be doing it by the end of March!

I bought the seats a few years ago because they were on sale and I liked this color. I had already started the deconstruction so I didn't get a chance to see how they would fit. I will probably cut the bases down or just make shorter bases, don't have to decide that right now. I wanted to make sure they fold out fine and there would be at least a little space in between. The cap is just sitting there and fits great. I started grinding off all the carpet adhesive up the sides, would like to have a talk with the person who did that... Port side finished, starboard side still to go.

Seats look good, floor looks good, and I'm jealous...you've got a cap on your boat! Great work.

I got the drain plug area PB'd in, I am not mounting the drain plug yet because I am still working on the transom outer skin.

I knew I had a small area to repair on the storage pocket support and ended up cutting out more to make sure I was back to dry wood, still need to go another 2" and it will be good to go.

What have you guys used for the inside of the boat, paint, gel coat? I am leaning towards paint and would like some suggestions. Thanks!

If paint:
I don't know what Woodonglass uses, but if he uses Rust-Oleum, I second that. I use clean metal primer (white) and Rust-Oleum gloss top coat colors. Thin with acetone if spraying.

I've used this formula and like it and especially ythe cost. I use Kirbys paint with this formula. It has the same base as rustoleum. Never ending colors. Perfect match to my gelcoat.

Hey guys, sorry I have been away from this site for a month, I just got caught up on your builds now I need to catch you up on mine. I have been able to make some progress little by little. I was able to get the Wise seat bases cut down 2", they should be just right.
I hadn't riveted and sealed the cap to the hull yet so that is why I haven't glassed the back of the cap to the transom but I have started the glass for the raised splash well.
With the cap back off the hull I have faired the deck and now ready for paint on the inside!
While the cap is off I got to work on the hundred or so screw holes on the top and side of the gunwales, mixed up some PB and put that down and will grind that down and add a layer of CSM to the whole cap, there are so many spider cracks, learned from a Boatworks video that doing this will stabilize the gelcoat and is much easier than grooving out every crack and refilling.

The black seats will look great but probably more suited for living in Michigan or somewhere it isn’t 150 deg in the shade ..😳

Thanks Tod and Sam, slowly but slowly...
The seats are navy blue Sam but from a heat standpoint not much different than black. I did realize when I bought them they were going to be hot, there are white terry cloth slip covers I saw somewhere that I will be getting. The seats were such a good deal and only a few colors were available, nothing light, they have been in the guest bedroom for 3 years now, lol. I also lucked out and found a navy bimini top on craigslist that had never been used so I really lucked out with the color match. The seats and bimini are navy and the boat will be white and IH white, a Majic color that comes close to the color the original light green gelcoat had faded to over the years.
