UPDATE:

I have ordered a new trigger assembly from marineenginedotcom and a new thermostat. I payed the extra $40 for overnight shipping, so I will be able to install each part tomorrow. Crossing my fingers of course!

You should just follow the color coding of the wires the same way with the old trigger assembly. If the color coding is different you need to check you manual. You might want to take some precaution to avoid having the same problem like what happened to the old trigger. Was the burnt caused by rubbing of the wire with the metal frame, if it is then you might want to tie it down tight so it doesn't rub or reinforce the insulation with heat shrink tubes. The thermostat should be easy enough because for sure they only go in one way.

there is a clear piece of plastic partially glued to the inside ring of the trigger, it is not glued well and is coming off. Am I supposed to use it as a spacer or remove it?

im guessing it is not supposed to be there, this should be really simple, there are only 2 wires to connect, the purple and white. im just concerned with the position of the trigger when I tighten everything down.

In the future, take pics before diassembling anything...that way you'll know how to put it back together.

I have no idea about the trigger orientation, so no help here.

thanks for the post.... i did take pictures, the thing is that the new cdi elec trigger came with a clear piece of plastic partially glued inside the inner ring of the trigger that easily came out of the inner ring. I just need to know if it should be used or not. There is more play in the new aftermarket trigger than the oem one, so it almost appears that the plastic ring is used as a gasket, but i am not sure and do not feel like pulling the flywheel again if im wrong.

Call the manufacturer or retailer and ask them.
