There's no need to remove the flywheel but since you already did it you might as well take resistance reading of the stator and trigger according to the manual.

What's with the "I'll paypal you money" stuff?

I doubt anyone here would take money to help a fellow boater out. Doubtful anyone is charged for long distance calls anyway.

Be patient....and listen carefully to the pros here(I'm not one of them btw).

Don't start taking things apart and/or replacing parts haphazardly.

The experts here will have you test things systematically, so you can diagnose it more quickly.

BTW: you could have tested the stator, timer base etc without removing them.

I removed and visually inspected the trigger and stator per the service manual. The stator magnets and wires looked solid, here is a picture of the wires going to the trigger...

Pull your thermostat and run without it....should cool the motor right down with it out. Probably a good time to change it regardless. It's a cheap part that ruin a motor in a hurry.
Might want to look into BonairII post. You should be able to put your hand on the water jackets while idling. Your heat sensor could be bad or a bad ground.

I understand, but if the engine only runs long enough to get 10 degrees from opening the thermostat the head will be hot to touch...had I let it run a few more mins would the thermostat have opened allowing water to cool the engine? Or is.this not like a car? Either way

I found burned wires in the trigger assembly

Your confusing me now. I didn't mention changing anything unless your talking about BonairII post.
the later post I asked if you changed the gas back to regular. (you say from your very first post. I put premium gas)

Pull the t-stat....and see if motor runs cooler. If it does, your t-stat is bad.

Re: UPDATE: JUN13th 1:15PM EST

Jason, That wire looks like it has burnt section but you do not need to replace the entire trigger to fix it. You can just wrap that with two or three layers of electrical tape and you should be good again. Only and if only the trigger resistance is still within specs meaning the cause of the burnt wire is due to low insulation on the wire instead of a high current on the trigger.

For $40 why wouldnt I replace it? Before I do, how do I test to confirm this is bad? It is removed from the boat is there a way I can test it sitting here at the table with my meter?
