Re: 33 hp ski twin

I've got two 33HP Ski-Twins. I LOVE THEM!! Both run GREAT. Excellent motors in my opinion. I have one on a 15ft. tri-hull fishing boat and it pushes it quite nicely. I would guess that I probably hit 30mph
I agree that these motors are very heavy....
Some pics of em for enjoyment purposes:

Nice pics. I like the '65 look better. I have an E40 in the shed, I think it's a '66. never tried it though.

And going further back, I also grew up skiing on a '62 Viking 25hp (which I now have seized in my shed 35 odd years later). I think i'd need at least a 60hp to get me up now!

and I also agree with Jay. I used to toss engines around also... Now an 18 or 20hp (22 cube) is my max... Big engines suck! I think I'm gonna put a hoist in my garage for the bigger ones!

The real question is what is the boat rated for? I would not go over it. If it's rated for above a 33hp then I'd get it as it looks good and if the compression is what you say, that's great.

Is the boat set up with front steering and remote controls? If yes, I think you'd probably be ok. If no, does it come with a tiller? I'd be leary about sitting in the back of a boat with a heavy engine and a heavy person (I'm 6'5" & 240#) and using a tiller.

What kind of props have you been running on yours? I was asking on the Prop forum and since you have two SkiTwins, I figured you have had some experience on what works for them 33's.

On one I have a stainless steel, the other is just an el-cheapo michigan wheel. Sorry but at the moment I can't recall what the pitch of them are...I will try and ge that info though.

Davey-
If I were you, and the 33 is a tiller (or any motor you get that weighs 100+ ponds) I would encourage you to build a console up front and hook up remote steering. You+the motor is going to give you about 375 pounds in the back of that 14ft. aluminum boat, which is going to hurt plane time in particular. I too am pretty good size (6' 190lbs) and I know that I wouldn't want to hook my 33 up to my 14ft. v-hull and me sit in the back. Just me.....

This motor is going to have the hook-up for the pulley-system steering. What I did is I bought a steering system and a 'conversion kit' (for lack of a better term) that allowed me to hook the single steering cable to the bracket on the motor. I will try and get you some links to go to.....

Re: 33 hp ski twin

thankyou very much...as of right now the motor is set up for remote. so its alot better then me having to convert it to a tiller. plus i like the idea of a console any way..always wanted a boston whaler type :p

This is exactly what I bought (I got away from the pulley-system)
This will allow you to hook the steering cable to the bracket on the motor.

You MUST have this (or something similar) in order to hook a modern steering cable to the 33 becasue it is set up for the pulley-system.

This is the steering wheel and cable

Please forgive me that I did not refer to iboats store-I was not a member when I bought these products. iboats store very well may have these exact products. If you decide to go this route, I encourage you to search iboats store for these products.

Re: 33 hp ski twin

I am assuming the 33 has the 'bracket' that I keep referring to??
It should be on the front of the motor and have two holes on the bracket, which is where the pulley cable would attach.....
