Re: 33 hp ski twin

yes it does...by the way, this motor comes with the controls and stuff. idk about steering wheel..

Ok, well that will save you about a hundred bucks...by controls do you mean an actual 'mechanical system' that is a cable that hooks to a steering wheel or the pulley-system that consists of cables and pulleys?

ok well since it is mechanical steer, you will need the transom kit. without this, your cable will have no support going to the mounting bracket on the motor. is this included? if not, check out that first link i gave ya.

The old 33 is a great motor. They were a bit of an economy version of the 40 with a smaller displacement and no "Super Quiet" lower unit (therefore no warm water recirculation on the 33). Davey, that motor shown had a long shaft (20"). Is that what you need?

yes it should work out. wats the reasoning between a short shaft-15" and a long shaft-20".....speed' handling depth of water? etc?

It has to do with transom height, it may be too long for your boat.

Re: 33 hp ski twin

Short shafts & long shafts exist to position the propeller (and water intakes!) at the proper depth for a given transom height of various boats. You must use the right shaft length for your boat.

If you use a long shaft motor on a boat that needs a short shaft, performance will siffer. You will create too much drag and your lower unit will prone to underwater hazards.

If you use a short shaft motor on a boat that needs a long shaft you run the risk of overheating, over-revving and poor steering control.

A 16" transom is designed for a short shaft. Decision time; do you want to try to convert it to a short shaft or should you find a different motor? Personally I would be leary of raising a long shaft motor up on a transom that requires a short shaft. To raise a transom up higher that the surrounding gunwales & bracing is a little dubious unless it is properly braced. You know about leverage; the farther out from the pivot point the more force on the part.
