Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,.... If yer looking for dependability, you outa go back with what it had, 'n maybe drop an eldebrock 1409 carb onto it,.....Hey I’m rebuilding my 1992 305, was looking into swapping to roller lifters. Wanted to know what cam lifters and carb is recommended it’s a 305 bored 30 over and has thru hull exhaust. It’s a 19ft crown line bow rider
Okay the machine shop had kept the original cam, possible to get the specs? And I wanted to put rollers in for dependabilityAyuh,...... Welcome Aboard,.... If yer looking for dependability, you outa go back with what it had, 'n maybe drop an eldebrock 1409 carb onto it,.....
A new cam, 'n roller lifters won't make enough difference to feel it,.....
@Scott Danforth can probably recommend a cam if you really want to spend for a roller.Okay the machine shop had kept the original cam, possible to get the specs? And I wanted to put rollers in for dependability
What pistons?Okay the machine shop had kept the original cam, possible to get the specs? And I wanted to put rollers in for dependability
The pistons are .030 536np and as far as the heads go. They are all original stock from what was on it, other than some valve seals and ground valvesWhat pistons?
What. Heads?
As @Scott06 mentioned, vortec heads are highly recommended.
For the cost of aftermarket roller cam, you can buy a low hour 5.7 liter vortec motor with a roller cam
Sorry for the late reply. Life got in the way for a bitThe pistons are .030 536np and as far as the heads go. They are all original stock from what was on it, other than some valve seals and ground valves
Everything is already sent back from the machine shop and the 536np are already on the rods. the advice given I think I will go regular flat tappet, I just need to know what cam would be best as far as specs so I can order the cam and lifters4-relief pistons are just stock carp to allow Johny assembly line worker to assemble them on a Monday with a hangover
If you are going thru a rebuild. Look at LCQ style pistons and focus on quench
Like the kb179
something like this would work nice for you. Probably pretty close to OEM specs maybe half a notch hotter.Everything is already sent back from the machine shop and the 536np are already on the rods. the advice given I think I will go regular flat tappet, I just need to know what cam would be best as far as specs so I can order the cam and lifters
You guys are all amazing people. I will buy that exact kit, I will check all that too, I’m also going with a 1409 for the carb as the quadrajet on it is junk and I’ve never been a fan of them. they also make a complete kit with timing chain valve springs retainers/keepers etc. Definitely check the spring height and retainer to seal clearance - not sure how your heads were set up
Quadrajet properly rebuilt is one of the best carbs out there. Key is if you have a good core. You guys are all amazing people. I will buy that exact kit, I will check all that too, I’m also going with a 1409 for the carb as the quadrajet on it is junk and I’ve never been a fan of them. Thank you!
