Hey I’m rebuilding my 1992 305, was looking into swapping to roller lifters. Wanted to know what cam lifters and carb is recommended it’s a 305 bored 30 over and has thru hull exhaust. It’s a 19ft crown line bow rider

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,.... If yer looking for dependability, you outa go back with what it had, 'n maybe drop an eldebrock 1409 carb onto it,.....

A new cam, 'n roller lifters won't make enough difference to feel it,.....

Okay the machine shop had kept the original cam, possible to get the specs? And I wanted to put rollers in for dependability

@Scott Danforth can probably recommend a cam if you really want to spend for a roller.

Would also recommend the Edelbrock 1409.

Not to spend your money, but it is easier than spending mine.... what would be worth it if you haven't done the machine work on the heads is get a set of vortec heads and 8 bolt intake. Would work better with a roller cam as they breathe better so you would see 25-40 hp. I think a vortec head 4 bbl 305 puts out 260 hp with a stock GM marine roller, maybe a few more if you do a slightly hotter cam

What pistons?

What. Heads?

As @Scott06 mentioned, vortec heads are highly recommended.

For the cost of aftermarket roller cam, you can buy a low hour 5.7 liter vortec motor with a roller cam

The pistons are .030 536np and as far as the heads go. They are all original stock from what was on it, other than some valve seals and ground valves

if you go to a roller cam and lifters from flat tappet you will also need to mess with lash ,rocker ratios and possibly other stuff in the head department like springs to stop spring bind , you will also have to get the correct push rods. and possibly splash trays in the valley ,there is also the possibility of rocker posts being too fat and will not work with the amended rocker ratio "that is dependent on what heads you have ".
very costly for no gain.

personally : i would stick with flat tappet cam and lifters with the same grind as OEM,

unless you are going to go to a vortec 5.0 engine bottom end or at very least "as posted" 5.7 vortec heads and 4 bbl manifold and going to roller rockers as well.
going to roller lifters and cam is going to give you absolutely no benefit , reliability or other wise , so IMO , the effort and cost to go with roller cam on a 5.0 is a waste of time.

4-relief pistons are just stock carp to allow Johny assembly line worker to assemble them on a Monday with a hangover

If you are going thru a rebuild. Look at LCQ style pistons and focus on quench

Like the kb179

Everything is already sent back from the machine shop and the 536np are already on the rods. the advice given I think I will go regular flat tappet, I just need to know what cam would be best as far as specs so I can order the cam and lifters

something like this would work nice for you. Probably pretty close to OEM specs maybe half a notch hotter.

they also make a complete kit with timing chain valve springs retainers/keepers etc. Definitely check the spring height and retainer to seal clearance - not sure how your heads were set up

You guys are all amazing people. I will buy that exact kit, I will check all that too, I’m also going with a 1409 for the carb as the quadrajet on it is junk and I’ve never been a fan of them. Thank you!

Quadrajet properly rebuilt is one of the best carbs out there. Key is if you have a good core.

i run a 1409 on my boat and have run other edlebrock carbs on muscle cars they are good and easy to set up especially if you are cutting your teeth on carb tuning
