They are 6-cylinder dizzys. However you could pull the shaft from your current dizzy

The 4cyl cap would fit the 6cyl body if I swapped the shaft?

I was thinking along the lines of swapping the vac advance stuff. If I convert to an MSD 6 BTM, than I can run the Sniper for just fuel and it’ll work.

I’ll have to check it out.

I forgot to mention that nobody local except one place can get the cardone distributor. Cardone lists it as available to order but it comes up as rebuild only at the parts stores. There is one part store that is quite a bit more expensive but has a lot of odd parts in stock. I have not had a chance to check there. He may understand what I’m trying to do as well

So the 6cyl ones are available everywhere for not a lot of money. I wonder if there is a benefit to getting a rebuilt vs used distributor

Dependss. If you can rebuild the distributor which isn't hard if the shaft is not buggered and the advance plate is not corded then get a good core and rebuild it. If you cant get a decent core get a rebuilt one. You still need to reuse your 4 cylinder shaft for the rubbing block no ? Might be worth finding out if that is in good shape before making a decision on a path

I want electronic or at least solid state ignition. I know the points are perfectly fine in general, but i don’t want point bounce/ inaccuracy under boost. So a pertronix kit is something I would install in a points dizzy.

The other crazy thought is, the Delco Voyager limits the advance to 23* or thereabouts, vs the points doing 33* with weights. It wouldn’t be perfect but if the engine hits boost quick enough to need timing pulled. 1* per PSI would mean that it would need 23* total advance under boost. Being it might make 10 psi. could almost be done without a timing controller. I know some old crude turbo setups limited the mechanical advance. This would be the same thing. I really only want 7-8 PSI as I do not want it to need intercooling

I agree with in principle with a caveat

If you are under boost all the time, then the 23 degree curve may be ok. However it will drink fuel more than a V8

The points can be used as a trigger for the MSD, therefore never wearing

There are better alternatives to pertronix

At low boost / light cruise you want the most advanced you can get. That is where the vacuum advance is additive to the mechanical advance to get a semblance of fuel economy

True. I knew that an MSD box will trigger on points. Using the white wire if I recall correctly. I’ve only ever set them up with Duraspark distributors. A 6-BTM and an automotive distributor of some sort is probably what I should do.

There is also the 4-cylinder DIS systems that have MAP sensors and can be programed for spark mapping

I’ve actually thought about using the cam sensor for an older 2.3L Ford. The earlier ones basically had it as a drop In distributor but it was only a sensor. Sniper could operate off such signal. I’m not sure how much it would take to make it work though

I figured this out while looking into FI for my boat.

The guys at Affordable Fuel Injection told me that they swap out the Delco EST module for a GM car module so the timing stays locked on their marine kits. I had an epiphany moment and looked up the module for a ‘95 Chevy 1500 (TBI), and shazam they look identical with the same connectors. This means to me anyway that, Holley Sniper or whatever will have a setting for a TBI distributor for sure.
