Did you add any additional support to the splashwell? Never liked the limited connection points that secured the splashwell to the gunwale and such, but maybe that was just the SS 16s.

Yeah I added some 1/8”x1 angle aluminum with 1/4” bolts through the hull. Not sure why it is only connected with screws, it just doesn’t feel right. With all the extra bracing I added earlier the splashwell is rock solid now. Very happy how it turned out.

Got the bottom paint removed and a light sanding of the entire exterior of the hull. Pressure wash the outside. I have access to a commercial grade truck pressure washer so it helped remove any lose paint I missed. It’s so strong about near knocks you over. Need to doing some final prep then ready for paint. Hoping I can paint Saturday but prob Sunday.

Wasn’t planning on painting the hull but the admiral wants me to. I need to get this project done. The late nights are killing me and this is huge walleye time on Lake Erie. Hoping to splash in 2 weeks but probably 3. I should be done enough to at least fish.

sorry no pictures today, just too dirty and wanted to get done

Admirals get what they want!!!!

That being said, don't rush your prep. Take your time and think it through. Paint on aluminum is one of the easiest things to mess up.

That being said, good luck and take plenty of PICS!!!

Yes, if the admiral wants it painted then it’s getting painted.

I called the previous owner to ask about paint he said it was automotive primer. Some commercial grade stuff he put on in 2017. It’s still in good shape so I hope it will be ok. I did a light sanding over the entire hull and feathered out some scratches. It’s super tough stuff so I hope it will work. It has very good adhesion to the hull. Ran out of tape tonight so tomorrow will be finishing taping, a good wipe down with acetone, then paint.

I hope it works

Got the boat painted now not happy with the way it turned out. With majic paint again but a different gray. Got 2 coats on yesterday and only had a couple drips. Got a 3rd coat of this morning and tons or drips. Not sure what happened but at the end of the day who cares. It is a fishing boat so I guess you will never really see the drips. This the M F gray (Massey Ferguson)

pulled the bunks off the trailer bc they were treated. Got a couple coats of varnish on the new bunks. The paint on the trailer was pretty good outside of a few rust spots but decided to spray it down with bed liner. Not too concerned with how it looks just don’t want it to rust away.

I think, unless you have done extensive painting ,we boat rehabbers are too critical of our painting efforts.Your paint job looks nice and shiny and 100% better than what we all started out with!Looks great from here.

Thanks. I’m worried about it but just wish I did a better job. Can’t be up set when it’s only my 3rd 2nd time using a hvlp spray gun

I mostly lucked out painting my transom and my worst missteps were where my kicker bracket mounts and thus mostly obscured. Still need to do the rest of the boat.

The paint definitely settled a bit. The sags aren’t noticeable unless you are looking for them. Recruited some help from my uncle and got the motor mounted, bow plate, bow supports, nag light and bow cleat mounted. All things that need 2 sets of hands to complete. Didn’t get any pictures but will get some tomorrow. Going to install vinyl tomorrow(hopefully) so I can rebuild the dash

Got the top of the dash installed and pretty happy with how it turned out. Could have cut the hydro turf better when you cut too much it’s too late. Got some rubber trim on the aluminum side panels. Got the vinyl rough cut.271DE64D-605D-40D8-B6E2-82BA8F08544A.jpeg1155A118-9ECB-40C6-B9FB-CCBA5EC145AD.jpeg49C00802-F870-40B6-A623-BCA708E48581.jpeg2039CBA3-3045-499A-BFC9-FD366423547F.jpeg0565EE3F-A84D-4B9D-91A0-27C2ED6B01D4.jpeg

Got some work done tonight. Kicker motor mounted. Dash is complete except 1 more fish finder. Helm seat mounted, motor controls installed. Was going to get a new steering wheel but probably getting laid off in the next couple weeks so going to hold off on buying new gear that isn’t needed. Also got some edge trim installed to help hold down the vinyl and give it a more finished look. Should have the boat buttoned up in the next few days if I can recruit some help. On the bright side, this gives me the opportunity I have been waiting for to start my contracting/handyman company. 0FF8E7ED-0952-4D10-B738-D3DD2A1F061F.jpeg787E9E8E-D743-40CD-A9ED-977BF3ABB663.jpegA155D287-31B5-479B-9FF7-866160A278FD.jpegD328E432-768C-46BA-BC2E-339415415FE1.jpeg038B80A6-2E41-452F-98EA-B91A128D3742.jpeg
