I have never seen such favoritism by officials as I’m seeing in this PSU/ OSU game. They might as well be wearing OSU uniforms.

Speaking of officials deciding the game. Apparently holding is no longer illegal as long as it's against Iowa. Hope those refs are cashing some nice checks.
It seems pretty widespread among officials. I get that nobody’s perfect. So many missed calls and so many bogus calls. Nothing worse than a game being decided by poor officiating, both collegiate and pro.

Yep ... on PSU's "Scoop and Score" that was called back ... it was a borderline call and I wouldn't have been upset by it if the officials had called OSU for even one of the times they mugged the PSU defenders ... just so many inconsistencies.

Then there was the 1st down call for the Steelers on a 4th and 1 ... how was that called and how did it stand on replay? No way Pickett made the line ... and I am a Steeler fan!

Could it be because of all the rules being added/tweaked, all the available camera angles, and that the media likes to stir the pot that the officiating seems so bad in all sports anymore?

I think the worst is how bad home plate umpiring has been this year. Worst I’ve ever seen. In that case there is no challenging the calls. I actually started a thread here about the inclusion of computer pitch calls and was, and am still against it. But I’m starting to rethink it. The money these officials make should carry some accountability if they can’t do their job. The top MLB umps are pulling in 450,000 a year, and some of the worst are at that rate.

No calls went against the Eagles on Sunday ... and the lead official calls home just outside of Philadelphia ... hmmmm. Couple of bogus and non-calls in last night's game. Something needs to be done.

Wife and I were talking about it the other day ... not sure if the officiating is so blaring because there are 27 different cameras showing everything from all angles in super-slow motion, or the part time officials are that bad, or the different leagues are encouraging the officials to come up with a certain game outcome to keep the season interesting, or ... but something needs to change.

You probably didn't mind the PI call on the Rams Sunday where the Rams player never touched the receiver and the poor spot on the Steeler's QB sneak.

Look up 2 posts:
"Then there was the 1st down call for the Steelers on a 4th and 1 ... how was that called and how did it stand on replay? No way Pickett made the line ... and I am a Steeler fan!"

It was wrong. I guess the Rams had used all their challenges and since it was just outside of 2 minutes it didn't go to automatic review ... still wrong.

And that PI ... I am not sure it was PI, but it was definitely a face mask. Either way there should have been a call against Pittsburgh.

Just because I liked the final outcome of the game doesn't mean I liked the calls that were made. Win fair and square, not with the help from an official...

I remember Marty Schottenheimer when he coached for us in regards to penalties:

(paraphrased)
"It's part of the game and you have to deal with it and if the game is so close that a penalty decides it, then I did not do my job well enough for us to win'

I don’t agree with shottenheimier on that. Two good teams that did their homework play a great game that’s tight and a blown call decides the outcome. That essentially takes the game out of the coaches and players hands no matter how good a job they did. When that happens is the official that didn’t do a good enough job.
