Your going to need new pump gaskets and shaft seal with the impeller. Remove the impeller and inspect the pump housing and seals. Then decide what you need
Ok so now I replaced the fuel pump and the fuel water separator and now it won’t start. I do hear the pump running after I let go of the key for a few seconds. I guess a carb rebuild is next...
This morning I went out and started the boat and it ran good for around 30 minutes and the problem came up......sputtering loss of power went from 650 rpms to about 400. This time it didn’t die just idled real low. When I would rev it up it would cough through the carb once or twice and then respond. ANY THOUGHTS.....I do have a carb kit on the way.
Follow the Mercruiser Service manual. They are very well detailed. Mercarb is dirt simple, good place to learn. Chase every port with a piece of wire or heavy fishing line. Spotless clean is the goal. Set float height carefully.
Today Installed the freshly rebuilt carb and new fuel lines as when I was removing the fuel line from the carb I stripped the brass fitting. The engine started after a couple of attempts as the bowl was empty. The throttle response was instant... awesome!! I let it run for more than 30 minutes on the muffs and it ran good but closer to the 40 minute mark. It started to backfire a little through the carb and when I throttled up it quit. I turned it off and tried firing it up again and it started right away. Any other ideas??? I think I’m going to take it out on the water and try it out.
