It's not a matter of hating the brand. At 10 years old it becomes a matter of how well the boat was cared for rather than what brand it started out as. That being said, at best it started out life as an entry level boat and what the potential buyer has been told by the seller just doesn't pass the smell test to me.

If somebody sold a 12 year old Bayliner 19 foot for $10,500 I'd appreciate him putting me in contact with his buyer as I have some great swamp land I'd like to unload.

Re: 2004 bayliner classic 195

talked to seller today again, says it's kind a pain to start on muffs and takes over an hour but would gladly sea trial it for me upon a price agreement....ok; first that's a bit odd to me, second though, if he's doing a sea trial I guess that's the better way to hear it run. But on muffs I can see if there's anything leaking such as oil or water where it shouldn't. he happily sent me videos of it running on muffs though?! odd..

also, this is only a 4 cyl, the exhaust ports come out through the transom on two small holes port and starboard side in the rear, or so I thought. in this video he sent me the water was only pouring out of the starboard side.....is that normal? maybe it just wasn't scavenging itself over to the port side exhaust port?!

Seriously? Thru hole exhaust on a 4 cylinder! Would only need one hole if you were dumb enough to do that.

I'd love to see a video of that. My .02 - anyone who would do that to a 3.0L bayliner isn't really someone I would buy a boat from. I'm trying to imagine what kind of noise an above water exhaust would make with a 4cyl.

Please post that video.

The seller sounds goofy to me but that doesn't mean he's a crook. The lower part of the lower unit (skag) was replaced not the whole lower unit. Hour to start on the garden hose is odd but maybe he means it takes that long to get out the hose at his house??? who know what this seller is talking about....

Knowing only the numbers on the boat I can say $6k is a great price. The only way to solve this puzzle is to jump in your truck with a wade of 100s and meet him at a boat ramp to see what's what. Win or lose you'll be glad you did.

Maybe just me but I smell a lying seller. Firstly $5,500 -$6,000 for a 10 year old 19 foot Bayliner???
Like I said before, NADA says that is the average price.

Re: 2004 bayliner classic 195

I was misunderstood. The exhaust out the back is stock. As it was from Mercury. I'm not sure the proper term, but the casting that bolts directly to the fiberglass part of the boat, on the outside, where your gimble housing bolts inside of; this casting has ports on the very bottom(submerged) that expel exhaust gasses. The video is on my phone so I don't have time to upload right now. Anyway through these factor Mercruiser exhaust ports, it blows the water out of when running the engine....is it suppose to come out of both sides or only the one starboard side? Because in his video it's only out of the one side.

Ah - that is normal. Some of the exhaust/water comes out the prop and the rest of it comes out the left side of the part of the drive that is bolted to the transom.

A 3.0L comes out one side of the exhaust relief ports. V-6/V-8 both sides.

NADA average is $7805 in my zip code.

Looked at boat, it looked great! I was ready to make an offer and do a sea trial! Then I looked at the engine last.....nice water stain running down the side of the block at the front; great. Anyway it's cracked underneath the manifold where you can't really see unless you really get in there at the right angle, deffinetly junk though.

At least you know now. If you hadn't went to look you'd always wonder if you missed out on a deal.

HAH!! guys called me back today adn told me that his mechanic talked to him on the phone who summarized the boat and said there's no way it's cracked, and laughed at him. the mechanic told him that if it was cracked it would be leaking into oil and engine would be ruined as mixing oil and water. he also said it would have been pissing water out the side of the block.

first, i dunno what kinda mechanic this guy claims to be as the block has a water stain down the side of it, sure it's in a hard to see spot unless youre payin attention, but still!! second, just cuz it's cracked doesn't automatically mean it's mixxin with oil! also, do these marine engines even see 15 psi pressures in teh water or no? i would think not as they aren't a sealed system and water is constantly being circulated in and out with no sealed system.
