I'm about to have kittens here. Hope someone can help me. I'm about to buy a new 2008 Q4 SF 18 foot 1 inch boat with a 190 hp engine. Now I did a bit of research on the Q4 before deciding to make the purchase and all the information I could gather showed that the Q4 was a 19 foot 5 inch boat. Well, the dealership says it's an 18 foot 1 inch boat and gives me a brochure to prove it. Ok, not a deal breaker. I get home and I look at the tahoe website AGAIN and sure enough, 18 foot 1 inch with a max engine of 135 hp...... Now wait a minute, the boat I'm getting is over powered???
I'm starting to feel like I'm in the twilight zone and the specs of the boat have changed over night. Places I looked at before that were saying the q4 was a 19 foot boat are now saying it's an 18 foot boat. A little more research shows that the Q4 USED to be a 19 foot boat with a max engine of 190 hp, but currently it's an 18 foot boat with a max engine of 135 hp.
This shows a 2004 q4 as 19 foot with 190 hp.

The dealership is telling me that Tahoe never made a 19 foot Q4 and the only change was the size of the engine to 135 hp to make the boat more affordable. Seems like Tahoe would want to offer both options so they could sell more boats.
I understand that boat manufactures change specs from time to time. I speculate that they may have discovered problems with the 19 foot 190hp design and decided to shorten the boat by 16 inches. I further speculate They later discovered that didn't correct the problem and decided to lower the the engine to 135 hp. It seems to me like I'm getting a boat that is between these changes. What I would really like to know is why was the length and engine changes deemed necessary? Am I making a mistake in getting an 18 foot boat with the larger engine? Any information on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
This is my first boat.
