Also that 2nd Stator for charging means this motor should have a starter? Which has obviously been removed.

Not necessarily, there are motors with installed charing units without a starter motor, just charges the battery you power your marine toys with.

Probably will need to purchase a rectifier to work witht the charging coil and stabilize the output voltage to 12-14 volts DC ?

Got the carb out and took it apart, Diaphram had holes and all the gaskets were crusty. Would this cause rough idle? Gonna clean put all new gaskets in and spark plugs then test, then to the lower end.

Top cover plate might cause it to idle rough.

So I tested and it was missing, inspected the coils and when running the top spark plug wire was shocking me but not the bottom. I ordered new coils. They will be here Monday. I took the boot off the back of the coil and this is what I found. Broken pieces, would this cause a miss?

Broken ferrite could cause a miss but need to test to see if it will jump a min 3/8 air gap

An spotless clean carb will always asure excellent idling if all the other parts are doing their homework right. Clean the needle valve, must be shinny..

So I put the new coils in and tested it out, I touched the boot on top spark wire and I got shocked again, shut it down and inspected the boot noticed a small cut in the boot, put some electrical tape on it and no more shock, but it still seemed like it was missing or something... I hooked up timing gun but not sure what the marks on fly wheel mean yet, research time. As mentioned earlier I need to ensure it is timed correctly. Will post a video of where it sits tomorrow as far as it running. Any idea of the timing spec for this motor? 7 + - 1degree btdc? That's all I have found so far, and that was not for this motor.

Max timing is 25°BTDC (3 dots), pickup timing is TDC to 2°BTDC and there is no idle timing spec

Question, I have NGK BP8H-N-10 as thats what was in it when I got the motor. I see on the parts list on marineengine.com BUH - NGK Spark Plug, 2422 or L76V - Champion Spark Plug ( #827M). I do see the BP8H-N-10 on a list for a 20 hp Mariner, here https://www.marineengine.com/parts/ngk/mariner.html
Confused and wondering if I got the wrong plugs in this thing. I know one is a surface gap Plug and one is j hook, wondering if the BP8H-N-10 J Hook is the equivalent of the surface gap plugs?? Not sure.

Ok that works, another question I have, the spark plug wires on the motor currently are a 7 inch and a 9 inch wires, I ordered a new 7 inch one as that one was shocking me and needed replacement, on marineengine.com they have only the 9 inch listed, should I do 2 9 inch plug wires or just go back with what's there?

The 9" will be fine ..just zip tie em up so doesnt catch cowl hardware...

Well I have a 7 on order, will 2 different lengths make a difference? There is 2 different lengths on it now, 7 and 9...

This is what it sounds like after all the timing adjustments and other adjustments in the post above with the timing procedure. Very simple. Going to take it to the lake tomorrow and do the full throttle timing. Does this thing just run rough like this? Should it be smoother? Timing is on spot now and it still seems rough to me. But maybe I'm wrong..... any advice would be greatly appreciated
