Eight hours after putting the batteries on charge, they're now in conditioning mode. I don't know when they switched over, but I'll let them keep going overnight.

Yeah 4 amps will take a while to charge up big deep cycles. Check to make sure there's a relay on your TM power, sometimes people forget those little things. ;)

Relay?

EDITED: Oh, you mean circuit breakers? Yes, the TM has 40 amp circuit breakers.

Batteries are charged! I'm liking the convenience of this new charger. (y)

Yes, it took awhile, but I'm used to that. On my other boats, I'd charge the TM battery using my regular charger set at 2 amps. So, 4 amps is better.

I'll likely not get any more done out there today. Weather headed this way soon.

we can use the rain, as it hasn't rained here since Milton.

A little more progress this afternoon. :sneaky:

I removed everything from the charger mounting board and used it as a drill template. Got all the holes drilled, including the big one for the 120v connector. I was pleased to learn that the console bulkhead is aluminum and not plastic. Looks like maybe 80 gauge. Of course, the mounting board will be located behind the console bulkhead when everything is mounted.

I bought a couple of regular battery cases and will return that open tray (Post #116) because it's not the right size.

The next step is to sand and paint the charger board, but I just wasn't up to it and that was it for today. My knees are screaming at me. 🙁

Such slow progress.

I've been essentially unable to walk for a month. I could just hobble around inside the house a little, and even then I had great pain. 😬

But the pain eased up in the last couple of days after I stayed off my feet for a week or so and I'm able to hobble a little farther. I do have a doc appointment tomorrow and I'm hoping that I can get some serious pain meds to help me along. I sure hope so, because my knees are screaming at me from the little bit that I did today. 😐

As a result of me feeling a little better today, I got out to the garage and white-washed the charger mounting plate. I'm keeping it simple so that I can get more done sooner.

We've been having the hot & cold weather cycles here. It was 34 degrees when I got up this morning, but it's up to 67 outside now and 70 inside the garage. It was time for me to work a little.

Doc appt was a flop. I got referred to the wrong doc. :cautious:

But, she was kind enough to check me out and then got me on the correct path.

Delays, delays. :sneaky:

No money in making people well, they spread you around for weeks or months to everyone and then never tell you what's wrong or even venture a guess until they all get a cut. Here try these pills...

Yessir.....we have gone way beyond a second opinion.....most are on fourth or fifth opinion !! Each doc gets a few hundred to analyze you only to send you on to the next guy. All insurance company required !! I am required a GP for coughs and colds, a then a reumitologist guy for my arthritus, a cardio doc for my heart, a pain management doc for any pain meds, another doc for my bad shoulders and hips, and the list goes on...each doc bills the ins co 280 bucks and Medicare wonders why there bills are so high !!

Well guys, all of my health care is via the Veterans Administration, so none of that commercial industry stuff is applicable.

I really don't want to crap up my build thread with complaints about health care systems. I just wanted to let folks know why it's taking me forever to get this boat on the water.

I hope to get treatment soon which will allow me to heal enough to rock and roll on this boat again!

Sorry about getting off topic....on longer threads it is easy to get off unless you read from the beginning. Can't wait to see finished pics of it on the water!!

I got stabbed in both knees this morning! And it felt great! 😮 🤪

My knee injections went very well and I got some immediate relief. More relief will come after a few more days.

Meanwhile, I plan to get out to the garage tomorrow and get back to work! 😁

Real progress made! :)

I went out there and looked at what needed to be done, sat there trying to figure out how I could physically get it done by myself. Gave up after an hour and went back into the house!

Called my 75 y.o. buddy up north and we discussed it... for another hour! 🤪

About then, my neighbor buddy texted that he wanted to pick up some brackets from me, so I talked him into helping me get the 2 batteries connected and installed along with the onboard charger.

Thirty minutes later, he was done and gone! Always great to have a strong young friend who knows what he's doing to help. 😄

I was wondering about where to splice in the circuit breakers and he said to use a bus bar instead. He grabbed a piece of aluminum stock laying around, put a bit into my drill press, cut the holes, then put the strips into my vice and used my angle grinder cutoff wheel to form the bus bars and installed them onto the cables and battery. Only took him about 5 minutes!
1.jpg

Then we mounted the charger and cables onto the backing board and together we got it installed under the front of the port console. He could do a lot more than me, but I did actually help. 😝
2.jpg

I screwed the mounting bolts in from the front of the console and he steadied them from the inside. The front 120VAC outlet was mounted too.
3.jpg

Next was to make sure that all the cables were connected and nice and tight.
4.jpg

5.jpg

Then the box lids were installed and everything buttoned up.
6.jpg

I plugged the charger in from the front outlet to test operation.
7.jpg
8.jpg

It all works and I am one happy man!

I went out to the garage on this very cold morning, turned on the heat and got to work. The goal was to vacuum the interior and get the trolling motor batteries strapped together.

I was only out there a little while when my wife came out and volunteered to finish the vacuuming, which was nice.

Got it cleaned up.
4.jpg

Then, we used a pry bar to lift the batteries up and my wife squeezed under there and got them strapped together.

So, that's done. Still more to do. :sneaky:

To splash, or not to splash; that is the question!

The boat has been essentially ready ever since I got it back from my buddy months ago. However, I didn't want to splash it without the trolling motor and Power Poles installed. Those are both done, as well as the onboard charger.

So technically, the boat is ready to go. But, it has no working gauges at all and I'd like to have at least a working tach. There's one installed but I don't know what engine(s) the boat had previously over the years and the PO told me that the gauges didn't work. I'm not sure of the wiring. I did turn the selector switch to the 12 pole position on the existing tach to match my Mercury XR6.
1.jpg

I'd previously pulled the dash with the tach from the donor boat and it had a circuit board connected to the back of the unit. But behind that it has the typical Mercury setup. I don't know if that one works either. I think it's smaller diameter than the one already in the boat.

I'll try to track down the wiring to see what's hooked up to the dash. I really don't want to get into another "thing" to delay a splash. We're supposed to have nice weather this coming weekend and it would be an ideal time to put the boat in the water.

What say y'all? Splash without a tach? Or no?
