I spent 2 hours vacuuming the boat this morning. That really sucked! 😝
Now, I need to find my nuts. 😁
I think I have some 5/16 stainless battery nuts around here somewhere. :sneaky:

At this point, the boat is now "technically" able to be splashed. :cool:
The engine runs and the new hydraulic steering system is installed and working correctly. And the TM is there as backup.

I'd like to get the TM batteries mounted into plastic boxes and circuit breakers installed before splash.

And... I have no working gauges in the boat. I'd really like to have a tach at the least, and water temp and pressure gauges would be even better. But seriously though, getting those gauges working will likely take me weeks. Ugh!

I also need to verify that the lights work and that I have all the safety gear on board. Might be nice to wash it before launch too.

I will not splash the boat without my buddy there. It's a safety thing for me. So, his availability is a factor.

Six days ago, I injured my left shoulder while working on the boat. I treated it with rest, ice and Tylenol for a few days and it was feeling pretty good.

Then last night, I completely wrecked it while putting a gallon container onto the top shelf of the fridge. I iced it twice last night and I've been putting ice on it off and on all day today, but can't do any work on the boat at all. :(

Yeah sounds familiar, put new rear shocks on my truck. All was well until after I torqued the bolts at 85 ft lbs on my back up under there. Guess we aren't young anymore. :cautious:

Well, almost 2 weeks later, my shoulder finally healed up enough for me to get the gumption to go out to the garage and get back to work on the boat. :sneaky:

Made some progress on a few things, ran into snags on others (had to order more parts again) and now I have a question.

I have these 2 batteries which I need configure. They're just sitting on the deck partially under the port console. They work well in that location to power the trolling motor, but I can't easily move them forward out of the way. That's how I initially injured my shoulder the first time a few weeks ago. :rolleyes:

I was originally going to put each into a regular battery box, but today I thought maybe I should put both into a single open tray. I'm thinking that I'll need some kind of roller under it.

Any ideas?

This is the tray I found. It can easily hold both batteries, but I wouldn't be able to move them and it's designed to be secured to the deck.

Another update.
I keep on getting injured, recuperating, going back out there and getting injured again. Lather, rinse repeat. :rolleyes:
I've been trying to get set up for Physical Therapy, but the VA PT clinic now requires patients to go to the main hospital, which is 50 miles away for me. I tried a closer location and they're booked up until the end of January. However, that allowed me to request private care. I'm qualified for that and am awaiting a callback to set up an appointment. My knees and shoulders will be happy to get some PT going! 😄

Meanwhile, here's what little I've been able to get done on the boat. Partly due to my physical limitations, but also time delays while waiting for parts to arrive. On top of that, we've been getting cold fronts with temps down to the upper 20s and I ain't going out there when it's that cold! 🥶

I needed to add fuses to the 12ah batteries for the power poles.

I had to order a connector kit for the Garmin, so when that arrived, I got that connected up as well. I used some self soldering connectors to get that job done.

I ordered and received an onboard charger for the two 12v trolling motor batteries. I didn't want to mess around with disconnecting one and charging just one at a time.
This unit can handle 12/24v charging. I had a piece of 1/4" plywood from a shipping carton, so will be using that to mount the charger.

With the charger order came the dual battery tray, which doesn't look like it'll fit. They did say in the ad that it was a frequently returned item and to measure carefully, which I did. Apparently the item description wasn't so accurate. I'll have to see if I can mod it or not. 😐

The next day, I received a power connector inlet for the charger, so checked that out as well.9.jpg

While doing all this stuff, I learned that Sealed Lead Acid Absorbable Glass Mat batteries don't like regular chargers. So, I ordered a special SLA/AGM charger and it works fine. :cool:

Yesterday, my wife helped me bring the charger stuff into the house so that I could do some low risk layout testing and whatnot.

This afternoon, satisfied with the layout, I took the stuff back out to the garage and drilled holes, cable tied and bolted everything into place. Then called it a day while my luck held! 😝

After I test the charger, I'll check the fit of the board at the mounting location and drill the mounting holes. Then I'll pull everything back off and paint the board and remount and permanently install everything once the paint is dry.

Onboard chargers are the bomb, best thing I did in my SS build for the 3 deep cycles and starting battery. I boxed all my batteries that use the strap for the hold down.

I managed to climb up into the boat this morning and do some testing. 🤪

Got the charger connected to both trolling motor batteries.

Then I applied power through the outlet on the board.

Next steps will be to pull everything off the board, then use it as a template to drill mounting and power outlet holes. Lastly; paint, final assembly and mount it under the console.

This boat has 5 batteries: 2 for the trolling motor, 1 for the engine and 2 more for the Power Pole Micro anchors. At least the TM batteries will be able to charge simultaneously. The engine battery will get a top-up before I splash, but should be charged by the engine once it's in use. The two PPM batteries will each have to be charged separately. They really don't use much power, so I shouldn't have to charge them often.

But, I like it as it is for now.
Time to go ice my knees! 😬 😆
