No progress this weekend, took the Tahoe to the lake, it was 101 degrees today, so we decided to go park the boat at snake island and swim!!! What a relaxing day!!! I'll get that motor pulled this week! Big Update, met up with a friend at the lake today, and it so happens he has restored a number of boats, some his some for paying customers, said he wants to come help on the skeeter! Super pumped about that!!!

Nothing like the summer heat in Texas. That is good news about your friend wanting to help. Your looking good so far.

Started doing some more digging around the transom tonight after I got all the bilge pumps and livewell pumps out of the way! The two holes you see in the next pic are in the area where I did the transom drill test and got wet shavings and water out of. I noticed that this part is not part of the transom, the area with the orange thing on it is the hull. There is a small piece of wood there and below it that are water logged. So I drilled three test holes in the actual transom and it's dry. The transom wood is 2 1/2 in thick.

This pic is looking from the boat looking back at transom, you can see the dry shavings sitting on the part that is the hull. Im going to replace the two pieces of wood that have water in them, don't think I'm going to replace the transom after what I found tonight, we will see after I get the cap off.

Also I know I'm going to catch some flack for this. But this boat will not have livewells in it. I am going to repair all these holes and seal them up. Fish will just have to sit in an ice chest full of ice.

true you dont need a live well unless you are planning to carry live bait or keep a fish alive you caught. i like the to use the front as a ballast tank when im running heavy on full tank of gas early in the day and the rear makes a great ice chest for drinks as its got flotation foam around it to keep it cool. there never seems enoght room on a boat so if you dont plan on using them then thats more space for something else. you will have to fill in the holes on the side of the boat as well or you will get wet feet when you hit a wave.

Ok trying to get the cap off, It appears the front compartments were glassed in after the cap was installed, the rear are all fiberglass sides and bottom no wood behind glass, the front has glass but the bottoms and sides are glass over wood!!!

If you have an oscillating cutter, you may be able to sneak it in there and cut the glass...you could also use a grinder with a metal cutting wheel, but be careful in those confined spaces, that thing can get away from you quick, wear some heavy gloves...if you can't get to the corners, just use a sharp chisel and hammer and cut through the remaining bits to free it up...

any pictures of the areas? just looking for the break point as it wouldnt make sense in a factory using fiberglass over a new cap and risk getting resin everywhere unless they had to. if the front compartments are made of wood and painted it might be part of the bottom, each boat is diffrent but the common thing is they were made fast and cheap so check to see if the compartment is joined to the cap or if the cap is resting on the compartment before cutting. you might find a digital camera and flash can get in places to see whats behind the compartments.(some switch panels can be removed to get a camera in) plan to cut something you didnt need to in hind sight as that will happen and as long as you have a measurement anything can be replaced especially if its wood and proberly needed to be replaced anyway.

Ill have to get pics tomorrow. Because my front deck has two large compartments in the middle and two long compartments on the sides. And it's stuck bad. I noticed alot of the 90 skeeter restoration threads on that site are never completed. I'm beginning to see why!

looking at the pics it looks like theres a 2" wide lip glued to the floor on the bottom inside of the lockers. the pics lack detail but the floor shows the marks where the top lip sits on the floor in this area. so from the lockers or large bin you should be able to gently pry the lip off the floor (paint scrappers and a hammer are good to get under the lip). so im thinking the inside walls of the locker are part of the top the floor is part of the bottom.
