Hang in there the tough part is almost over.

Thanks guys! Grinding has been a PITA but the end is in sight. There rain let up yesterday just enough that I got another 3 hours in and almost finished the grinding. There is a cold front coming in this week behind the rain so the weather should be great just after I finish, just my luck. I've been baking outside in the 90-100F days, inside a Tyvek suit, and now they tell me there will be a high of 80F all week. Shoot me now:faint2:

Day 18

All I have left is this area around where the bow eye mounts. I'm not sure what this white stuff is, paint or gel-coat, but it is the worst part to grind down. It is almost an inch thick in the corners of the bow storage compartments. I assume it's because that's the lowest point and it ran down and pooled up there. It looks like someone just poured a gallon of the stuff and let it dry up however it went on (circled in red).

Can someone please tell me what this part is for?

Well guys I have officially finished the grinding and moved the boat back into the garage to begin the rebuilding process. Here are some before and after pics. Did I do a good enough job to earn my grinding badge?

I don't know about a grinding badge, but you've definitely earned a nice frosty adult beverage or 10 with all that work. Looks really nice and clean. Great job in my book.

I'm getting ready to place my fiberglass order and I wanted to run a list by you guys and get your input on anything I should add or take off. I found this supply list from another member that did the exact same boat so I think it will be a great start. I will get rollers, mixing sticks and buckets, and other small supplies local.

15 gallons of 435 Poly Resin and cat
35 YRDS of 1.5 oz Matt
15 YRDS of 1708 Biax
10 YRDS of 8 oz cloth

Here are my Questions:

- I was not really sure about was the 8oz cloth for the deck surface. Most supply list I have seen just have Biax and CSM. Is it common to use a thick cloth as the last layer on the deck?

- I was also going to add something to make PB. Should I get cabosil or 1/4" chop strand for PB?

- Is there anything else that I should be ordering?

8 Gallons of Cabosil, 1 qt of Glass bubbles and 1 qt of 1/4" chopped milled fibers. About the 8oz fabric...Depends on what you're gunna finish the deck/floor with. I agree it's prolly a bit heavy. I usually recommend 5oz as a finish layer for Gelcoating. If you're gunna carpet then CSM is all you'll need.

Thank you sir. I really have not yet decided how I want to surface the floor but If I decide to gel-coat then I will order a good 5-8oz as the finishing layer.

Hey Wood, I was on US Composites website looking up these supplies and I have a question on the "1/4" chopped milled fibers". I see 1/32 miller fibers but not 1/4 milled fibers. I see 1/4" chopped strand but no 1/4" chopped milled fibers. I assume you are talking about getting 1qt of 1/4 chopped strand, right?
