Well I may have found a motor have not made up my mind yet.
It's a 01 evinrude 250 Fitch. I have done a lot of reading and come to the conclusion that the bigger hp motors where not the bad motors
It is privately owned has 700 hrs on it has a computer scan report 130 to 125 on all cylinders also the drive was upgraded to the 04 one.
My only hesitation is its age I wanted a bit newr but its very clean!!!
Any opinions?

If it's dirt cheap,....

The fichts scare me a bit,....After BRP bought evinrude the 04's were good and then they changed the name to e-tec,...

I know guys that have been ran them and had great luck, A friend of mine is still running one on a 2000 620 Ranger and loves it,....

I also know guys that blew em' up,.......

If it's cheap enough it might be worth rolling the dice,...

Yes price is right excellent condition and from what I read the issues were with the smaller motors and happened within a couple hundred hours.

Well I did not move fast enough. But that's ok wasn't meant to be.
Ok so my transom measures 27.5 " I plan on using a hydraulic jack plate could I go with a 30" shaft or should I stick with a 25" ?

I had to go back and look at the pictures,....

It doesn't look like 27.5, But looks can be deceiving,.....

What was the shaft length on the Johnson 150 that was on it?

Just looking at the pictures on the first page I would think the 25 inch is about perfect,..

If it need to be a touch lower a jackplate should do it,....

Do you have any pictures with the Johnson from the side to see where it lines up???

Hopefully someone else will chime in,...

I think you could go either 25 or 30 with a jackplate,.....

I was thinking and take this with a grain of salt that with a thirty the power head would be that much higher while running and less chance of swamping motor.

That's a valid concern, Especially on Erie,...

I would think either length would work with a jackplate to move up or down accordingly,...

So I called bobs machine shop today and a couple things . the warrenty on the pumps between the 2 styles of jack plate is 5 years on inside boat mount pump. And 3 years on all in one unit.
So then he said he believes my boat shoud have a 30" shaft no matter what being the transom id 27" tall. but refered me to a motor guy. He said jack plates are meant to raise motors not lower them.
motor guy said probably should be 30" but 25 will work. He also has more 25" motors then 30".
So I think i'll start looking for a 30"
