Frey when I did the deck in my Lund I used small brass carpet tacks spread out about every 6", They are holding up nicely.

Thanks guys for the help! I think I may have found some SS staples at Menards.....the brass tacks are an interesting idea also!

Ok guys, need some assistance...

Front casting deck and all wood is cut to fit, sealed with WOG formula, and ready for next steps....Finally!

I plan to carpet like a mad scientist this weekend, but would like to ask for any carpeting tips you might have for casting decks with hatches, lids, and hinges. Any help here is much appreciated!

Here is how front casting deck turned out, sealed up nicely....look at that sheen...lol

Budski is the mad man of carpet around here and the one to ask. In fishing boats I'm more of a non-skid surface type of guy. Sure looks like some good deck space up there and sealed up nice and tight.

Thanks Watermann, maybe Budski will have something for me on this? If not like the rest of this project, just a learn as I go, it doesn't take long to know what works well and what doesn't.....

As far as I can tell the carpet on the floor and the front casting deck is the most challenging and only so because I have to work around hatches and I want to have a "neat" look and feel for the installation.

I will post as I go on this.....Frey

Casting deck looks great, one thing I always do before I glue the main carpet on is cut enough pieces the same width as the plywood you used and about 2 inches long and glue and staple then on the inside of each corner, that way when you wrap the carpet on you won't have any bare spaces in the corners, if I'm not explaining this properly Frey just ask, and good luck. PS I always use SS staples so if you can get some I would advise it.

Adhesive, carpet, adhesive, carpet.....over and over.

Here are some updates to my project:

I have not screwed down the front edge near the speaker yet, so you can see the structure beneath. When I screw it down completely it should draw it down tight!

Everything is really coming together, nicely! I am ignoring the flooring...lol...that will be the most challenging part I believe!

This has been the absolute best tool for this part of the project:

Budski, I just noticed your mention of SS staples, and while I looked I couldn't find em without ordering, I went with Galvanized staples. I was hoping that this trailer queen, that is only placed in fresh water wont rust out in the long run, the last staples were actually in good shape for 26 years old!

Looks great Frey, nice job and I know ss staples are hard to find, I can get a box of 10,000 reg staples for about 15.00 while the ss ones are about 55.00 to 60.00 so they are pricey as well.

Hello everyone! More Updates:

I finished carpeting all the panels in the stern last night (late night!):

I created a 2 new storage spaces in the stern. I think it worked out well!

Next I cleaned up the transom brackets a bit...600 grit wet sanding cleaned 'em up nicely! The one on the right was cleaned up, the one on the left needs to be done...

Now both cleaned up:

Now I'm onto the flooring.....with carpet.

One step closer and starting to slide I'd say.

Why'd ya stop polishing half way? Keep going and it'll match those chrome cleats. :D J/K looking good Frey.

Thanks TDF! I'm making progress that's for sure. I had to travel a couple of days this week for work, and that has prevented me from completing more on my project.

As for the transom caps....I don't think I want them as shiny as the chrome plated cleats cause then I will have to polish more on the hull 'cause it will bug me that after doing all this work is doesn't match. I don't plan to polish the top rub rail for example.

Thanks tho for checking in and posting!

Hopefully much more completed this weekend!

Hello again, I got a few things done....JUST KIDDING!!! I got a whole lot done over the last 2 weeks! Many late nights, sweat, and a few smiles, and I'm ready for a SPLASH!!! That's right I said SPLASH!

Check out the progress!

Motor is back on and sitting pretty with a fresh new solid transom!

Speaking of transom, turned out really good, IMHO! Sealed up and fresh coat of paint...of course self etching primer was used...:)

Right side now.....transducer installed, speedo cable re-installed....
IMG_1915_zpsckrfzvo1.jpg

Looking forward...plenty of space on rear casting deck! All new carpet, wood, and SS fasteners :)
IMG_1908_zpsqpitihc0.jpg
.

Storage below rear casting deck. Dual batteries, and gas tank. Fresh air comes into this compartment freely under the main seats so no need to add additional venting.

Another view from the right side....
IMG_1916_zpsnbenyiax.jpg

Main flooring complete now, and console set in place and secured:joyous: You can see my voltmeter and tools used to clean up/replace all electrical connections at the fuse block (under the console)....forgot to pick those up before taking pics....got too excited:D
IMG_1921_zpsjt2hzv7q.jpg

Now front casting deck, trolling motor re-installed (its older, but still works like a champ!). I moved the front light to a central place so that it can be used when the trolling motor is in it's storage location. Scratching head why PO had it mounted like he did....much better now!
IMG_1919_zpsbkxlrpi7.jpg

Hooked up the hose last night, and entertained the neighborhood with the sounds of Evinrude in da moonlight! Motor was running high, but after a few tweaks it was running sweet again, like I remembered! I plan to make final adjustments next week when I splash! I didn't take a video of it but let's say smiles were on my kids faces, and even a few high fives could be seen!

It feels really good to be at this point in my project!!!:D:D:D:D

This fall/winter I plan to attack the exterior of the boat with something, oh and I plan to address the trailer as well, so I will be back!

I will follow up with splash pics and share the adventures that my boys and I see next week when we are on family vacation.
