Oh Yeah.... But not as expensive as the gimbal bearing and the unis... :D

(BTW, you're only paying $62, in Australia it's over $200!!!)

WTF... damn those import taxes..

Couldnt you get someone in US to mail it to you?

It's not import tax. It's dealers price gorging.

Yep. But I would recommend you use OEM, they last longer and are easier to get one.

You might already be doing this, but before calling them, get a full inventory of everything you might/need to replace as sometimes a bigger order can save you a few bucks.

For example: gasket setting for putting the drive back on, check all the nuts for excessive wear both for re-attaching the halves along with those used on the bell-housing studs, applicable Merc. grease types if you use those, bellows adhesive, check the front and rear trim ram anchor pins, the little bushings inside those, shift slide support tool for re-installation that might help, etc.

Got the gaskets with the shift linkage kit, and do you really need the alignment tool to put it in?

Bushings on the trim look good, all bolts appeared to be almost brand new. I'm just hoping I haven't damaged the out-drive trying to take the thing apart.

When was the last time it was checked? If it's more than a few years, check it.

Unlikely. As long as you didn't damage the surface near the quad ring (small ring that looks like an 'O' ring, just to the starboard side of the water pump housing) you should be good to go....

BTW Mark... No plastic bushings in these drives. Big rubber ones on the Alpha Ones. The little (breakable) plastic ones are only on the Gen IIs. Another Merc moneymaker, along with those snap-on plastic caps on the end of the ram anchor pin... You seen the price of those suckers?!?!?!

Yep, I had to replace the front anchor pin on both the Maxum and Sea Ray..........neither needed a new rear one though....

good news! Finally got this dang thing apart and the pump all replaced!

Splines all looked good and thankfully that oil hole had no damage anywhere near it.

That impeller looks fairly burnt up. I'd be checking the housing and base very carefully (with a view to replacing the entire assembly). For things to look for, have a look at THIS VIDEO.

Don't use it. Merc stopped putting an 'O' ring groove in on the MR and later drive-shafts. If you put it in, there is a very high likelihood of the 'O' ring snagging on the seal as it goes in and holding the seal open. That lets water into the spline area, and the steel of the upper drive-shaft corrodes away in very short order.

ugh this looks like it is going to be extremely annoying. Do i need some special socket for the shift cable install?

Just a thin-wall 9/16" deep socket... (3/8" drive or 1/2" drive is your choice. :D) I got one with a hex on the outside, so I can put the socket on the cable, then a ring-spanner on the socket and tighten it up that way.
