Wow. Moving right along. Great job with the pics. They are showing me some details that was to far gone on mine to know how it was supposed to be. Mine is setting completely stripped awaiting finances to enable me to move forward. Will start a thread when I do get it going.

What about leaving the cuddy off all together??

That would leave a massive fishing platform,.....

A 225 E-Tec HO would push that along very nice,......

Interesting idea, I like the open floor plan. I doubt it adds any strength to the hull. Maybe the top portion, but not the hull. Does the top get flimsy when that door is removed?

Yah, your cabin kinda depends on the walls to keep it in place. When you get them out you'll see it'll be kinda floppy/loose. If you want it all open you'll need to figure out how to shore it up somehow.

This is going to be a sweet ride:D

Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'

With the 1 wall off it does not feel flimsy , I have the boat covered , some rain blowing through my area , well needed rain! Unlike my last job , I can get in and work under the tarp with standing room!

I may go out and see what I can do with this helm and the wires to nowhere...

Do you know I cant find a fuse box? Anywhere! I was hoping the electric would be easy , is it possible there is NO fuse box?

Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'

Im running new leads anyhow , thinking of adding something like this , a somewhat modern fusebox , my old MFG has a thick steel plate with the old style glass fuse assembly screwed to it... this would make re-wiring simple

Before I purchase it , I will read up on grounding the box , grounding panel? Uh oh I better start searching the forums

Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'

There was no fuse box on my70' Offshore. I added one, I don't know if they just used inline fuses or what the deal was. If you use wire make sure it's marine grade (tinned). I re-did all the wiring on mine. There are some generic wiring diagrams here on one of the forums.

Make sure you ground back to the battery. Do not ground to the boat, aluminum is a conductor. Back to the negative side of the battery.

Let me ask you this... Say I buy this panel , and I bolt it to say the new cuddy wall under the helm. I bolt it through the 4 mounting holes.... then I connect the batterys negative terminal to one of the 2 posts on top of the panel , then connect positive to the other post... Then to power an accessory I would plug it onto one of the connectors next to a fuse right? Where would the accessories ground wire go?

Do a separate buss bar for your grounds. My 82 had no fuse panel either. Did have some inline fuses. Don't know if they were factory or not. Big mess. Thanks for the offer for pics. I'm sure I'll be hitting you up.

I was looking around amazon , I found a nicer box that comes with a cover , and its layout I completely understand. Thinking of mounting it inside the cuddy high up on the wall behind the steering wheel area. Where its dry , AND.... where if I ever have problems I can sit down on a bed and have the fuses at eye level , instead of laying on my back with a flashlight looking up under a dashboard at a birds nest of wire.

I think I could make a nice wire harness and pass it through a hole in the new cuddy wall , Im sure I could make it look neat inside the cuddy.....

Was counting the things I hope to need to plug in....

Bilge pump
Nav lights
courtesy lights (which I plan to add)
VHF
fishfinder
roof mounted spotlight
horn

This fuse block has more than enough terminals and I like the cover and labels , I never owned a boat with a neat organized fuse block, so Im going to make sure this job it gets done right.

looking for a trailer its trash

How bad is it? I know of a boat/ trailer really close to my house that i have been eyeing. I just want the rails off of it, but the guy wants to sell the whole thing! Bad part is, it needs new tires and its a roller, not skids. Nice fuse block btw!

Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'

5 mins after I began towing the boat home I knew I needed a new trailer , I absoultly HATE this trailer , I dont like or trust the coupler , its crooked and the boat does not track straight! A good trailer is a MUST for me as I tow to florida annually! From Ohio that is! I posted a picture online and people started telling me the axle is to far forward , I need so much hardware I decided Im done with it... It will serve its purpose of holding the boat while I repair it , but Im 99% sure Im replacing it.. if your in Ohio or western PA and you know where a nice trailer for a 22' cuddy is... by all means let me know

Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'

Well I woke up chomping at the bit to get the rest of this cuddy out , pouring rain wont allow it today , so instead I went on a shopping spree, all things I need of course ;-)

I planned on buying some wood for the floor and panels that need replaced first but what the heck! , and some poly resin also... the resin I will order ...perhaps today

All Items I purchased were from amazon.com and qualify for free shipping !

Figured If Im going to have the floor out , one of the first items I will need besides the deck wood is a bilge pump

Attwood Corporation Float Switch Automatic With Cover

Attwood 1200 GPH Manual Bilge Pump

41Lvw3SBzGL._SL500_AA300_.jpg41nEUp4GcLL._AA300_.jpg

7 Seasense Super Bright Interior Lights - Surface Mount Led dont know why I bought these , wont need them anytime soon , but the price was right. I wanted to upgrade the dome light in the cabin , on the helm , and I wanted to add some led to the boxes that houses the seat & fuel tanks as well as the rear of the boat

41iSdm8NbcL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

And of course the fuse box

Blue Sea Systems 5026 ST Blade Fuse Block with Cover

total $ and thus so far the cost of repairing and fitting this boat: $203.22

Thought I would keep track of $ spent or this job.

Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'

ok where is the cheapest place on the planet to order poly resin? figured on needing 2 or 3 gallons to coat the floor and panels , seems the place I got it from years ago is no longer in buisness , I think I got it from a place in Mass (online of course) Merlins or something? I cant seem to find them .... on amazon the shipping is outragous

Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'

I let Google shopping answer my question , http://www.jmsonline.net/ had some at a price that cant be beat..+ 20 shipping :-( anyhow 3 gallons coming my way... I plan on laminating my floor and panels , also I have a HUGE roll of fiberglass mat in my garage from my last boat adventure , I may unroll it and see what I have, and do my deck with mat... although in an alum boat I believe coating the wood with resin is suitable... either way.... look out home depot... i need some wood!
